I have a Biostar NF325-A7 motherboard. I put my w4605's mobile sempron 2800 in it and boots and works perfectly. I bought a mobile athlon 3400 64 for the laptop but it runs too hot or something and finally crashes..... So now I want to put the mobile sempron back in the laptop and the mobile athlon in the NF325-A7.....problem is, with the athlon in the NF325-A7 it powers up but does not boot....Any ideas why? The board is suppose to support up to a 3700 athon 64...It is a verson 1.1 with the latest bios...I guess If there is no way to boot the 3400 in the NF325-A7 how do I keep the lw4605 cool enough to run it? HELP!!!

so it worked for u installing a64 onto a sempron mobo. how fast did it go down? have u looked into modding ur heatsink and fan so that it is constantly on and be cool enough? have u tried to leave the laptop barechested (heatsink/fan exposed) to see if it runs better?
it would be very interesting
cheers ...

Did you buy the DTR or non DTR version of the mobile. There is a huge difference in power consumption/heat dissapation between the two. The mobile 2800+ Sempron, IIRC, is either 25W or 35W. The mobile A64 3400+ is either 62W (mobile version) or 82W (mobile DTR). Either a a big difference in power/cooling demands. My guess is that either you aren't getting rid of enough heat, or the voltage regulator/power supply isn't capable of supplying sufficient current. There were a handful of "low power mobile" A64 processors produced also. There were close to the same thermal rating as the mobile sempron. I don't recall if they made any of them up to the 3400+ flavor off hand though.
There is no such thing as a sempron only motherboard. The sempron is nothing more than an A64 with less cache. Earlier Semprons also had the 64-bit extensions disabled on the die, but for all intents and purposes, the two are the same processor.

that chip model is sitting inside my m6805 at the moment and has ZERO issue since day one
i do not know much about installing a mobile cpu on a desktop, though i heard that it is feasable with some mod.
anyway on ur laptop- i would try first to update all drivers and bios if they are available and give it one more shot. u mentioned that it is going crazy after loading a game, i would suspect something to do with the graphic driver, and since eMachines kinda dropped the ball on their drivers, i recommend looking into HP side for the driver update of the integrated gpu.
if it works, like Thunder_PC said and what u have tested to prove that heat dissipation is an issue - try to mod ur heatsink/fan
just a personal note - i tried to install a 3700+ in my m6805 and it became quite UNstable, i heard a few users with up to 4000+ but they have used a special bios update. So my take is that u might have to try a lower cpu (3200+) on ur laptop to see if it works

The AMN3400BIX5AR is a 62W 1.4v processor. The one that came in your machine is probably a 25W 1.25v. Do you have the chip number off it? The only low power A64 mobile processors are the AMD2700BQX4AX and AMD2800BQX4AX (2700 and 2800, 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz respectively). They both run 35W at a max of 1.2v.
The voltages were thrown in because it brought up something I didn;t think about earlier. Besides pure wattage draw and heat output, it is possible that your machine won't ramp up to 1.4v.
Also, the reason for it getting so buggy when you load a game most likely isn't caused by the graphics drivers. The CPU is throttled to full speed at that time, causes the increased heat output/voltage requirement.
If you can, try running superpi or some similar CPU hammering software and see how long it runs, if any time at all before crashing. If it (superpi) will run at full speed for any amount of time at all, then it is probably not a voltage issue. The voltage increase when you start superpi will be instantaneous.
One other thing if you can. Run CPU-Z in one of the machines with the sempron in and post back all the information.
Side note: If you can get a 3200+ to run in it, the memory performace will actually be better than with the 3400+ anyway. The odd way in which the A64 handles multipliers causes the processors with odd numbered multipliers (like the 3400+, 11x) to essentially underclock the RAM frequency.

So much for that idea
- The albany is a 62W 1.4v processor. Heat nor voltage either one should be an issue at all. Both processors have extremely similar power requirements/heat dissipation. Without re-reading everything, IIRC, you are having trouble getting the 3400+ to run in either machine, correct? And the 2800+ runs in both? Have you considered exchanging the 3400+?

Have you considered exchanging the 3400+?Well I origninally bought the w4605 with plans to upgrade the cpu...I figured it would be easy and save me hundreds by doing it myself. The Biostar NF325-A7 will poer up with the athlon in but won't boot.. Is there a newer bios for the w4605 because I can't change any settings in the bios they're all locked in. It would be nice to be able to change the clock speed and try that..I bought the 3400 off ebay so there is no chance for exchange.

I don't know why is being id as the Albany on CPUID.
The 3400+ cpu that you have is a 62w mobile cpu and that is why it crashes. I have the same laptop and bought a 3700+ mobile athlon 64 and quickly discovered this problem.
I'm now trying to swap it with a MT-37 Turion 64 which IS a 25w TDP CPU with same vcore requirements as the existing Sempron 2800+ but I'm still running into issues. I'm wondering if there is an updated Bios for this machine.
well it's good to know that I wasn't the only one that thought the notebook was easily upgraded...I have since put the 2800 back in and have givin' up on the upgrade for now. I resold the athlon 3400 on ebay at a loss. I need to just find a desktop version of the 3700 for my desktop motherboad. I too thought there might be a bios upgrade that would help but never found one...as far as your case goes...I'm pretty sure a turion won;t work because the board isn't a turion board...here's the link that made me think the athlon upgrade would work in the first place...
