HP Pavilion dv6000 Entertainment Notebook PC

The newly-designed HP Pavilion dv6000 15.4" widescreen Entertainment Notebook PC combines mobility, power and entertainment in a new design. This design is the same as that seen with the recent release of the dv2000. It features an HP Imprint finish, the dv6000 's subtle "wave" pattern was influenced by Zen rock gardens and compliments the stylish, curvilinear design. The coloring is high-gloss piano black on the outside with polished silver on the inside. HP claims that the new resin finish is more durable than standard options. The dv6000 design also features back-lit, touch-sensitive media controls that are activated by a touch or tap of a finger.

Following are the full specs for the HP dv6000:

* Processor: Available with Mobile AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core and Mobile AMD Sempron processors
* Screen: 15.4" widescreen with HP BrightView
* Graphics: Optional NVIDIA GeForce Go 7200 discrete graphics. Standard NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics and NVIDIA nForce Go 430 chipset with AMD processors.

* Weight: weight starting at 6.5 lbs
* Two omni-directional microphones on select models with integrated camera
* Optional dual stereo headphone jacks -- one with high-definition digital audio support (S/PDIF capable)
* Optional HP Pavilion WebCam

The dv6000 replaces the dv5000z and is available through HPShopping.com just in time for the upcoming back to school sale season.

HP Pavilion dv9000 Series Entertainment Notebook PC

The HP Pavilion dv9000 is an AMD Turion powered dual-core 17.0" high-definition widescreen notebook featuring optional Ultra BrightView dual-lamp technology. The dv9000 offering will replace the dv8000z. The dv9000 adopts the new HP Imprint finish and wave pattern design. The color is a high-gloss piano black on the outside with polished silver on the inside, HP's new resin finish is more durable than standard options.

Following are the full specs for the HP dv9000:

* Screen: 17" WXGA+ (1440 x 900) Brightview standard. Optional WXGA+ Ultra Brightview or WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) Brightview display.
* Processor: Available with Mobile AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor
* Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 discrete graphics with 256MB dedicated DDR2 VRAM
* Card Reader: 5-in-1 digital media card reader
* Four USB 2.0 ports
* ExpressCard 54 slot
* Wireless: Integrated wireless support for 802.11 a/b/g Wireless LAN and Bluetooth on select models
* Dual hard disk drive option with combined capacity up to 240GB
* 8-cell Li-Ion battery
* Weight: Starting as low as 7.8 lbs
* Speakers: Integrated Altec Lansing stereo speakers
* OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2 or Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2. Optional configuration with Microsoft's Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
* Dual stereo headphone jacks -- one with high-definition audio support (S/PDIF capable)
* Optional HP webcam with integrated dual stereo microphones.

The dv9000 won't be able to compete as a high-end gaming notebook with the nVidia Go 7600 card, but it will certainly be Windows Vista compatible with the dual-core 64-bit processor and dedicated graphics option.

I'm disappointed to see only a 7200.

...and only 64MB of dedicated VRAM...

That's like putting an AM radio in a Ferrari F430....

Question is.....Is the 64Mb Discrete GFG 7200 better than the 128MB Discrete ATI 200M in the current dv5000z series?

BTW - the 7200 is NOT an available option on the Cpq version V6000z - only on the HP dv6000z version. The V6000Z gets the GFG 6150! Ewwwww!

By the way, what *I* would love to buy, right this second, is:

V3000z
TL-56
1GB RAM
100GB SATA HD
Super DVD-RW (We don't need no stinkin' LightScribe. Use a damn Sharpie!)
Minimum of either GF 7600 or X700, with at LEAST 128MB *DISCRETE* VRAM
100/1000 ethernet
802.11a/b/g + BT. OK, you can drop the .11a
14" BrightView, gotta be at least 1280x800.

In other words, take the current dv2000z/V3000z, smack a TL-56 in it, replace the UMA/Shared-RAM garbage video card with a 7600/X700 with 128M or 256M discrete RAM, and ya got a freaking winner!

I don't need a 15.4" screen, and I'd have to get another lappie case, as my $150 Port bag is for 14" lappies! And I LIKE my port case. ALOT!

For me, only the Acer 4404WLMi seems to come close to these specs, but it is a 15.4" lappie, and is not Turion X2. Maybe the Aspire 51xx series will fare better. The 5102 and 5112 series looks promising, but they are like hen's teeth in the US. the 5102 sports ati Xpress 1100, and the 5112 does X1300/X1600. Haven't found any info on discrete graphics RAM on the 5112 series yet.

IF I could find an Aspire 502x series, LX.A4605.xxx I'd be happy too - X700, 128MB discrete.

In all the Ferrari's I had thru the years I've never needed a radio.... Love to hear the sound of the engine..

Now if you had a Yugo.... then you're going to need a killer stereo.

but then again... I saw one fetch like $3000 on ebay last year.
Isn't that what they sold for new???
