Networking Not Working At All

How my internet is connected.


DSL Cable comes from outside into the internet port on my Linksys WRT54GS router. Ethernet cable goes from port 1 to the ethernet port on my desktop computer. Then my laptop is connected to the internet via the wireless network my WRT54GS provides.

Now that you know my network layout, please help me configure file and printer sharing.

Both computers are running XP Home SP2 with latest updates.

Both are running the same WORKGROUP name. (MSHOME)

I have tried some basic guides online and forum guides aswell as the guide on the Linksys website. But nothing is working and that is why I am requesting your help.

Have you tried running the "Set up a home or small office network" link on the left side of the "My Network Places" window? That will allow you to share files and printers.

Well the PC's are seeing each other onthe net so it's just a matter of getting sharing and permissions sorted out.

Nope still dont have it working.

For some reason on my desktop I can access my laptops files but not from my laptop to desktop. :?

Check your permissions on the folder. Is it open to the world?

Its not really a folder, its a whole HDD.

Do both login accounts you are using set up with a password? They both need a password if you're going to share out the root of the drive...which isn't a good way to do things. Create a folder and share it out rather than the whole drive.
