I would suggest you try and downgrade your sound options
It is probaly trying to do Dolby even though it can't, so make sure your settings are to not do any Dolby or any other special kind of decoding.
Also, you might want to lower your acceleration settings for your audio device. If all else fails, you can get a USB sound card, or have Dell do something about it.

how would i go about downgrading the sound?
i tryed calling dell and they told me that they would call back the next day, because it was getting late. but they never returned my call and thats why i am here asking for help.

Wow, thank you Dell customer service. I always thought it was 24 hour customer support. I must have been wrong.

Ok, follow me here. Start --> Control Panel--> Sound and Audio Devices. Open up the Advanced panel in the Speaker Settings section (at the very bottom) Click on the Performance tab, and lower hardware acceleration until it stops with the crackling. You can also try lowering the sample rate, but this will result in unter terible sound.

Let us, or at least me, know what happens.

that didn't help at all. it just keeps crackling even at the lowest level,
any other ideas? could it be a bad dvd codec or decoder or whatever?
Hmm...it might be that. Try uninstalling whatever decoder you have, and then reinstalling it.
But aside from that, I think we need some more people in here.

I think he meant the dvd player you use. Nero Showtime etc etc.

try uninstalling that and use the demo of power dvd or such see if it helps

also run a virus scan, you never know.

hmm maybe also try going to volume control and muting the options mic midi etc

make sure you have the right speaker setup selected (two speakers etc)

close all running taskbar apps too. If you are undervolting, or changing something like that which wouldnt happen during a media boot then that may be causing it.

basically think of all the differences that running windows normally and in the media mode have.
