Still Loving Oblivion

I defeated the Daedra last week and thought the game was over. Well, except that I was only on level 5 and I saw many quests you could not start until 10 or 20. Anyway, I got promoted the "Champion of Cyrodiil" and Oblivion continues to be the gift that keeps giving.

Sounds like you are having a good time with Oblivion, nebulous.

Just curious...were you an RPG fan before this? It's interesting that many people who didn't play RPG/adventure type games seem to like Oblivion.

I played a bit, but it was pushing my desktop's abilities, so I'm waiting to play it until I get my new laptop...

I have to reach back pretty far, but there were 3 versions of DUNE, an RPG, and a game called Companions of Xanth that I really loved but I don't think anyone else on the planet has ever played.

Grrr, Full Mage. I'm tired of hearing "What can I do for you Associate?"

is Oblivion a single player game? how would a 6600GO handle the graphics?
Yes, Oblivion is a single player game...no multi-player available.

The go6600 handles is "ok" - but you have to turn down the resolution and many of the graphics effects...this is not surprising, because this game is a killer even on high end desktops and notebooks. You won't get the full effect of the graphics glory, but you can play the game.

screenshot from my desktop (Aurora 7500):

anyone here play it on there area 51m5500 with a 6600GO and have a screen shot.
If no one comes up with a shot from the m5500, I'll load it back on mine and take a few.
Scrrenshot from m5500, at 1024x768 res, Grass View distance low, shadows off, HDR off...plays at 25-30FPS in outside areas, double that inside...Note that these look a little dreary, because it's approaching dark and the sky is overcast...I'd have to keep playing to get a brighter shot...as the game mimics real time effects.

Here are a couple more shots, one inside; and it's brightened up outside, and grass is set to medium view distance...this drops the framerate by about 5-6 fps.

Where did you get the Skull and CrossBones longsword ? Very Cool. Oh, and why were some of those people in the screenshots NEKID ??? jk.
The sword is one of the more expensive ones I picked up late in the game - as I played it mostly on my desktop. The other ones are from earlier levels fairly early on in the game. Those people are lying around in the underwear, cause I musta stolen their clothes after I killed 'em. (Figured out later, it was pretty much a waste to take everything from the dead ones )

The coolest Item I have is my Black Horse. It is much faster than the one you get for free from the Waynon Priory, but don't corral them in the same stable. One tends to disappear.
Yeah - I liked my black horse. But I lost him somehow...maybe that's what happened.

So I got a white one...he was okay. Sometimes I just go for a ride on the horse, not really looking to do any quests or anything...maybe I'm taking this role-playing a bit too seriously

The games to mush for me XD I played it for 6 hours straight and thought I was near the end, but I wasnt even near the beggining lol. It's a fantastic game, but...and I thought I would never say this about a game, there is too much to do

I walked from Chorral to Cheydenhal to get my Black Horse. It took 30 min in realtime but is was fun and you find more forts, caves and shrines that way.

Some things I'm noticing with the black horse:

It sometimes wanders off while your in a cave or fort.
More things attack while your riding it, seemingly, than the Priory horse.
It sometimes gets attacked while your in a cave or fort.

Just last night I left the horse outside a cave and when I returned, it was gone. I looked for several minutes and could not find it. So, I fast traveled to the nearst town, this worked when I lost the Priory horse, but arrived on foot, no horse to be found. I had to load the previous save to get my horse back. Also, last night I came out of another cave and there was a dead mudd crab and a dead wolf at the feet of the black horse; its health was almost depleted.

I'm considering a reinstall of Oblivion because the gameplay is getting choppier as the levels go on. I expirenced the same with Doom3. Does anyone know if reinstalling and moving over the last 3 or so gamesaves will eliminate the choppyness ?
