i8600 and dekstop resolutions question

Hello,

I have the WUXGA+ (1920x1200) and an ati radeon9600 128Mb.

Installed a fresh xp, all dells drivers and dell display drivers as well.

when I change windows resolution to any lower setting, it doesn't show it full screen;it shows a small viewable desktop surrounded from black borders.

is this correct? is there a way to show lower resolutions fullscreen?

Display properties -> settings -> advanced -> displays -> Panel -> click on Scale image and then select expand to full size viola every resolution excpet 1680x1050 and 1600x1200 should be full size

I'll try it at home tonight; why wouldn't those 2 res work though?
