Going to college soon, should I go for a all in one or a Good printer?

I would go for an all in one..

I have an all in ok, printing is ok (mostly text...I dont hitnk I've actualy printed any pics yet) and I can scan anything I need wich is usefull.

having a scanner is useful....

As long as it is a laser printer. If you start to print thousands of texts, paperworks etc. etc. etc. you will understand.

Why buy a printer? Use the College's - you're paying for it in your tuition anyways. I brought my printer from home to school... bad idea. University had much faster and top of the line beasts. And if I wanted a 40 page project printed, heck printed three times - I get no problems.

Sorry, I have no idea how college works in US. So of course, if you have access to free prints... but _if_ you needto buy a printer, try to get a laser. You will never regret.

yeah, use the universities. Search around, and you should be able to find a computer lab somewhere that will solve all your printing needs fairly easily.

It's not all that convenient though. Laser printers are pretty cheap too, these days...

You're definitely going to want a laser printer for college papers--but, if you can easily access a university-paid one, then grab an all-in-one. I can't tell you how convenient it is to have a scanner/copier and fax machine in your living room (which, if you live in the typical college dorm, is also your bedroom, study, dining room, and kitchen).

All in One all the way. Total convenience and with the prices of these machines today there is no excuse to not have one. Many universities now charge you to print (All Arizona universities do anyway). Just get the all in one.

I bought an all-in-one when I left for college and it's been very handy. Just make sure to get one that is reliable--they're more expensive but are worth it.

yea i used to like them back in the day, but everything they make now is utter crap. my last 2 lexmarks died on me like 4 times. Right now i have two Brother MFC's, and an hp portable photo printer.

also, make sure the all-in-one has a decent shape. having one that is an odd shape will make it harder to find a place to put it in some dorms. i know i had an oddly shaped one and i had to have it on the floor under my desk (used it as a foot rest sometimes) because that is the only place it would fit, but the one i brought last year (hp psc 1350) fit on this small shelf that i had in my room. the scanner was very useful, and color pringting was conventient sometimes.

also, my school charges for printing, though it's a $40 quota per semester, so you've already paid, so it's there to use/go to waste. 5 cents a normal sheet (single or double sided), extra for other types (different size paper), 70 cents for color laser. all you do is send your print job to the server, then swipe your card at any of the printers around campus.
