Laptop cooler for my AW

Laptop cooler for my AW

I hope it’s appropriate to post this here; it’s a review for the Nexut TDD-3000 Heat-Pipe laptop cooler. Because I use it for the Aurora m9700 I figured this is the place.

Nexut TDD-3000 Heat-Pipe laptop cooler
http://www.xpcgear.com/notebookcooler.html

I find this a great notebook cooler/stand for the m9700, as you can see below, all 4 of the notebooks feet fit on this stand, so the notebook is completely elevated.

This device works as advertised. It disperses the heat from the center of your notebook to the cooler, outside sections. The center of the m9700 is where the 2 graphic cards are located, and this is the hottest section of the notebook.
Its simple technology, but really works! It keeps the center of my notebook cooler, and more comfortable to the human touch. It also lowers your internal system temperature by moving the heat to less “hot” areas.

Now this next part is completely coincidental. I already owned this notebook cooler

Targus notebook ChillHub
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1093469291003

and by their advertisement, it fits a 17” notebook. Guess what? It doesn’t! This device is too small. But it is nice, the 2 fans lower the temp of my notebook, and it has a 4 port USB hub.

Well, these two laptop coolers really work nice together.

It’s like these to coolers were meant for eachother!
The fit is perfect; the Targus ChillHub fits perfectly into the bottom section of the Nexut cooler. No need to glue this baby in, it’s a snug fit, but not so tight that you cannot remove the fan cooler.

As you can see, the USB has to be in the front of the notebook, there is no room for it in the back. This is also good because the exhaust to the fan cooler is also in the front. The back end of this notebook has enough exhaust, and gets rather hot. Dispersing some of the heat to the front side is a great idea.

You can also see, the 4 port USB hub is completely accessible when these two are together.

With the fan on, the entire “rig” stays much cooler to the touch, and actually lowered my CPU temps an additional 2C when running SP2004.

suck or blow

does this cooler suck or blow? as in suck air away from the bottom or blow air up into the laptop.

I am considering getting either lapcool 2 or 4 for my needs

If I'm looking for a single unit, what is a good choice of laptop pad/cooler? One of these? Something like the iLap? That xBrand thing from the AW Gear Shop?

Marker, off topic question. I bought the DUAL DRIVES.. Althought I can only see one on the very front of yours, how do they fit in a dual layer drive?

Dual Layer drive is not TWO drives. It just writes to both layers on the DVD so that you get 8GB of storage on the DVD instead of the single layer 4GB. The drive should be the same size unless I'm mistaken.

yeah, the dual layer DVD burner is able to burn to both levels of the dual layer DVD's (Regular DVD+/-'s can only hold 4.7gb's whereas DVD's you buy of Movies etc are Dual layer, meaning they use 2 layers to write the information to. So they can hold 9.4gb's) (If you have any experience backing up movies, thats why you have to shrink them, unless you want to pay a couple bucks per disc which I believe is the price for dual layer blank media but I cant say as I've checked lately. and I'm not talking about illegal copies by the way, I have a dvd collection of well over 150 dvd's and 60 seasons of TV on DVD all legit copies, but I've got 3 "homes" so I like to take copies of some of my favs with me without risk to the originals). The drive itself is the same size as far as I know, it is just able to burn to both layers of the blank dual layer media.

Does the 2 coolers make it wobble when you type?

i cant believe it but no, it sit's fine. I typically use it on my lap to there would be no wobbling anyway, but even on a desk.

I HAVE TO ADD SOMETHING!

this config stinks if you do not plug the fan cooler in, it actuall raises the temp of my system. but only by 1C.

Still, if you dont plan to plug it in, the system is cooler w/o the fan cooler under it. there is less natural air flow (unless you turn the fans on).

I really like this heat-pipe based laptop cooler, no wires, no mess, and keep my laptop, and lap confortable.

I put the fan on during Overlocking, or extended gaming, like an 8 hour streach of wow.

Marker, without the lapcool underneath the heat pipes.. can you put it on your lap?
Is it hot at all on your lap?

thats what i typically do, but yes, the point of this device is to disperse the heat from the center, to the outside. The entire thing gets a little bit warm, but not nearly as warm as the laptop as it's self would.

wow marker01, what a great find - thanks for the info. I tried mine in my lap without a cooler, and that just wasn't happening.

Hmmm...

The vents on the bottom of the m9700 are intakes, so I wonder if the cooler setup you have wouldn't work better if the fans were reversed, to blow into the intakes on the bottom of the laptop...?

Aye, I think all the lapcool models blow air up into the laptop. I'll be using either lapcool 2 or 4 and ill post how it works out

That's why I asked...

If the cooler is sucking air down away from the intakes, and the internal fans are pulling air up, you're creating a low pressure area. It will draw cool air in the gap from the sides, but I would think this would reduce airflow through the heatsinks inside the laptop.

With the fans blowing up, you'd create a higher pressure area, so it should increase efficiency by helping the internal fans work better. The result should be increased air flow over the heatsinks, and that is always good.

Sure wish BestBuy carried the Nexus cooler. I have a $50 gift card for there and cant figure out what to buy. I also had 50 bucks for amazon that AW gave to me as compensation for some of their screw ups, and I just spent it on that Targus cooler.

Is there any particular reason you aren't using the fan cooler all of the time?
