Macbook Pro vs. Macbook

Will XP run on the new 13" Macbooks just as well as on the Macbook Pro's? For some reason, I thought it was the "Pro" part that allowed it to support both OSX and XP?

Thanks!

XP will run on any current Intel based Mac.

yeah, xp will run on anything intel. the big diff between the 2 is the video card (dedicated vs shared) which will make a difference in overall performance.

question....if you're planning to run xp anyway... why not just get a PC?

In my case, I am wanting to move away from XP ultimately. I am looking for a replacement for my Thinkpad X41 and have been looking at a Macbook...being able to run XP is more of a saftey net I guess. I am also looking at an M1210...the 13 Macbook is pretty tempting especially if I can use XP if needed though

the MB is a very nice PC.

orbitz im in the same boat, considering a 1210 as a replacement. the MB 1.83 i have now is being bought by my gf and i have to decide what i want to replace it with. i will probably get a dell desktop just for giggles, and probably go MB again. its SUCH a nice computer, and itll run XP for my programming stuff at school. that and the xps 1210 is 400$ more for aabout the same config, thats no good. but it comes with the 3yr warranty, opposed to the MB with just a 1yr for now.

overall they will probably cost within 200$ of eachother. xps is smaller/lighter/ and has of course better GFX.

hard, tough decision for me.

xps 1210 with identical specs- 1400$ (but has 3yr warranty)
MB with same specs, but only 512 ram-1100+200 for warranty-1300

so about the same price. now the nice thing about the xps is for a little more money, i can get the dvdrw, and the Nvidia solution.

Also, I think the M1210 has a little better battery life and is .75 lbs lighter. I am coming from and Thinkpad X41 which is a bulletproof machine....and I REALLY have tried to stay away from Dell due to concerns about reliability (admittedly not from personal experience however). I am just so annoyed with how long it takes to get Thinkpads that I am thinking about switchig it up this time. Feature for feature, the M1210 is pretty hard to beat for the price in such a small package....but dam the MB in black is sexy!

or, nowadays the question is "if you're planning to run xp anyway...why wouldn't u get a mac?"

As long as you arent planning doing a lot of 3d intensive gaming a macbook 13" will work just as well and be better on your wallet As far as osx is concerned I just got my macbook a week ago and i am SOLD. I installed parallels and xp but I still haven't found a program that I need to use xp for. I was under the impression that I would be using xp and osx both but it seems to me like there are workable osx replacements for everything that I need. I have seen those m1210s and they are pretty sweet I must admit. I think your choice is really osx vs windows more than features because ghz for ghz and gb for gb two different operating systems will perform differently. If you are a student there are some nice deals going with discounts, free ipods and cheap printers for macbooks, and as far as dells go you can get some pretty nice coupons if you are careful about it. I would seriously reccomend trying out osx either in a store or on a friends machine. Make sure to try it on a machine with at least a gig of ram and you will love it. I really dont understand why apple even makes the macbooks with 512mb of ram it is really inadequate and doesn't represent the machines performance capabilities very well at all. Happy shopping

ive been running the MB with 512 for a week now. its not that bad, itll open basic stuff. lowest ram hsa gotten was 100 free. i had itunes going, word open, 3 firefox windows, was playying a gaem on yahoo, and had adium going.

I don't know what was wrong with what I was doing but for some reason I was always maxing out the ram, I didn't even really have that much stuff open. I think it probably had to do with how when you close a window the program still stays "open" until you quit it. I was probably hitting the red dots assuming they were like the x's in windows in any case 2gb has allowed me to continue using my macbook in that inconsiderate manner
