MS Word + Other apps crashing w/Radeon 9000

Searched a lot about this. But couldn't find any concrete evidence if this is card, machine, or driver related. Anyways, whenever I use MS Word (2002 or 2003 i think) after 1-10 minutes my machine locks up and my video gets very bright all the way to white then starts to do this very strange color cycling almost like a dark liquid is being poured into my screen.

I stopped using MS Word and haven't had the problem again until recently. A new application from VMWare is now causing the same behavior. Has anyone ever had an issue like this? Is there any solution?

This is a Sager 8887, Radeon 9000 128MB, 1024MB RAM, 40GB HD, P4 3.06ghz
I have tried the latest Sager drivers for this model (which are very outdated and don't seem to be updating) and currently using DHzer0point drivers which say CATALYST Version 0.5.8 and driver version 8.162.0.0

Are there any newer drivers for the 8887 other than modified drivers?

Have you ever cleaned the machine's internals?

Once a long time ago. It has always had this issue though. EVen when the machine was new. I have just never found another application that can reproduce the same crash other than MS Word until now. I don't see how it could be a dirty machine...
