well I have been lookin a while for a college laptop. so far I am very impressed with the selection and prices I have found. One of my freinds told me that Compaq, Acer and toshiba are the good brands. I have been looking around w/i HP and dell. at this time I prefere either the dv200t(HP) or the e1405(dell), I prefere HP more because it's cheaper and they are giving me a TON of free upgrades. suggention...... comment....... anything........

give your price range and what you'll be using it for...also what is important to u...like if you want to take it to class...or if you want to play demanding games on it. Then ppl. will be able to help you.

i have already looked at the macs, one of my freind told me that he could install mac OS on a windows laptop. so i'm not buying a mac. my price range is $1500. i want to take it class (not gaming). i would not have considered the e1405 but cnet said that it has about 7+ hours of battery life with high performance battery.

the compaw v2XXX series is an excellent all around computer if gaming is not important. if you buy one go for the larger battery and you'll get 5+ hours of life.

my dell is 4 college too

I doubt its a "need". I can't think of one reason why you would "need" a core duo for college or really anything mainstream for that matter. But as it is newer generation technology I can see why he would "want" it. Its always fun to have the newest toys even if you don't actually need it.

hmm, the 640m are the same thing, just with core duo. they both are the only models with amazing battery life, thats what drawed me to get the 630, cos i don't liek bringing it to uni, and having to cahrge it. like sometimes, i jsut bring the laptop and thats it.
