hey guys, i hooked up my computer to the rear of the tv. this was done through s-video (the s-video port from computer, and the video cable(yellow) to tv). i can get the desktop up, but when i go to watch a dvd, the picture is on the screen, but not on the tv screen>? likw i can see / hear everything, except for the dvd video, why is this?

It's your graphics card. To get the video on TV, you must disable the LCD screen output, so that the display is only on the television (prolly pressing Fn-F4 or something like that). Or if your graphics card supports it, you can put the TV as secondary display in a dual display mode.

i had a similar problem, it has something to do with the setting. i dont remember what it was and i dont have my laptop with me to look it up, but look around in the setting to the secondary display.
i think i ended up disableing the lcd on the laptop.

There should be an option in your video card driver application for something like "theater mode". Mine is setup so that whatever video is playing on my computer (even minimized) shows up fullscreen on my tv it is really nice. If your video card does not support this then you could set the tv as your primary display while watching the video and then switch it back afterwards but that would be a bit of a hassle.

Even if it its integrated your graphics card should still have some sort of application that controls its options. ATI cards have catalyst control center or whatever and I am sure others have something as well.

Nvidia has a "fullscreen video" option. I have no idea about Intel. $5 says movies in Quicktime will work though.

This is a common problem using Windows Media player. It cant play a lot of formats in a secondary monitor. You can try a different media player or just change the TV to primary monitor.
