LCD doesn't turn off when I turn down the cover

I have formated my 6400. Yesterday I found that when I turn down the LCD, it will turn off automatically. Today I installed some applications. I found that the LCD will not turn off when I turn down the LCD.

Is that I turned off some service in Windows XP? All this applicant I installed now has been installed before I formated the HD. I have no this problem before. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

You will need to install Dell QuickSet if you have not done so. Open QuickSet and click on Power Wizard. On the next screen Change "No Action" to "Standby" under "When I close the display lid, my computer will:"

wth? that doesn't really solve the issue... what if you want to leave the computer on? (e.g. you are downloading something, or you want to stay signed on to aim)

although this doesnt really "solve" the problem per say, what I do when I want the LCD to turn off when I close the lid is to go to the power properties and set the LCD to turn off after one minute. Although I almost never close the LCD and leave the computer running.

Does anyone know if it's bad for the 6400 to be kept running with the lid closed? I'm a bit worried about this because of the location of the vents. I don't want to damage the screen because of the heat emanating from the laptop when the screen is closed.

I don't think I need to install Dell QuickSet. The LCD did turn off when close the lid after I installed some applications. But after I installed all what I need, it didn't turn off when lid closed.

I have tried to set to suspend when close the lid and it functions well. But when I change it back to do nothing. It really do nothing rather than turn off the screen. I think the detection on turn off the screen did not have problem.

The screen should go off according to the power scheme settings, whether the lid is closed or not IF you choose "do nothing".
my lcd goes off while i close the lid. and my setting of 'when i close the lid' is 'do nothing'.

my problem is, sometimes, the LCD won't come back on. no matter what i do, so i have to hold the power button to turn off the machine....

I go to the function in windows and you can tell it to be put on standby when you close the lid. So I close the lid when my PC is on, it went to standby. Even better.

Yes. The screen should go off even the option in Power scheme is "Do nothing". I haven't change anything but now the screen didn't go off.
I don't know whether the screen turn off is controlled by some Dell tools. Last night I installed the Dell Notebook system software again but it seems that I doesn't help.

I turned off the service - Ati Hokey Poller. Turn it on again and everything works turn. LCD turn off again when lid close.

But if suspend / hibernate work. It means not a hardware issue.
My friend's M1210 did suspend when lid close.
