Lid close issue

My friend's M1210 did suspend when lid close.

I think its a driver issue - if you use the dell provided driver - it should work - albeit not very well - I have problems with it sometimes not turning back on again (unless I let it go back into power save mode - and even then doesn't always work - sometimes pressing fn+f8 helps) and if it does turn on, the screen does this "repainting refresh" and sometimes my taskbar quadruples in size on its own too....

If you are using a non-dell driver, all the problems should stop - but the screen wont turn off on lid close

this is my experience with the dell 8200 on the nvidia go - and it seems to be happening on the m1210 too :-( Why can't dell just do it right at least the second time...

I resolved the issue.
My LCD would turn off fine when using the Dell provided driver.

However, I downgraded to the 81.98 nVidia drivers from laptopvideo2go as Dreamfall (The game I am playing currently) has severe artifaction problems with the 84.xx drivers provided by Dell

once I did that, the game (Dreamfall) ran fine but the display wouldn't switch off when the Lid was closed (And I have set the power options to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed)

so I decided to give the new drivers another try but instead of running the Dell driver Installer package, I went to device manager, selected ny display card, clicked on update driver, and enabled the option to look on the net for updated drivers.

Post this, not only does dreamfall work fine, but the display also switches off as expected when the lid is closed.

I really do not know how to explain this though, but perhaps worth a shot for thois of you who are facing this issue

I'm facing the same problem on my M1710, just set "stanby" when I close the lid and that works, but closing the screen it just stays on when set to nothing.

strange defo a drivers issue and not hardware switch broken.
