Uninstalling components

How do you uninstall some of the preloaded OSX programs e.g. iChat or garageband or just stuff i don't need now. Just got my macbook the other day and almost 20 gigs is used up already. I already started putting crap on here and don't really wanna do a clean install. Thanks in advance.

To uninstall stuff in OSX all you have to do is go in your applications folder and drag whatever progam it is to the trash. In some cases there will be residual programs in the library or something but for many there isn't. I think a few programs have uninstallers if their files are spread out too much. You can also free up a lot of space using various programs that delete language support for languages that you don't speak (and probably never will). Google around there are a few out there and they work well.

go ahead and insert your osx cd. itll guide u through the process, and u can do it. after redoing mine, i went from 18.6 GB used, to 7.4GB used.

quite a difference. i turned off the printer drivers (like 3gb), and langauges(like 2)

youd be surprised. itll also allow you to skip installing garageband/files.

At least the software that is preloaded on macs is something that is usefull and not like 30 different free 30 day ISP subscriptions and other crap that you get from most PC companies

fixed.

i got all my computers NO-OS, that way they can't preinstall trash on there even if i did get an OS, the stores i bought it from (discountlaptops and ibuypower) don't pre-install any crap.

Thanks for the info guys.

Can u even get a mac w/o the OS installed? Yea I agree that the software is more useful but I won't use half this stuff anytime soon anyways. But if I need it later on I believe they are of the OS install disk correct?

I don't think apple sells any machines without operating systems. Yes you can always reinstall all that software from the install disks if you need.
