I am currently using Sparklan Atheros 5006xs chip mini-pci card. I bought this card because many people were disappointed at Intel card (2200, 2915) and happy with this card (longer range). Once I put this card, I got marginal gain in range and speed (way less than I expected). Furthermore, once I changed my router to MIMO one, there's no Atheros based router available, which means I cannot get super-g (108mpbs) benefit. Also, there's no MIMO compatible mini-pci available (except Atheros) yet.

I also use my laptop at school. I don't know what brand router they had, but range is so poor even in the same floor. I only got one or two bar (7-14db) with current card.

So, I was wondering if there's any other mini-pci card with high power output. I heard my current card (5006xs) has maximum 100mw output. I don't know if FCC regulation block the spped over their limit (anyone know?). Also, I found Senao card (Atheros old chip 5006x based) with 400mw output. I am wondering if this card can perform any better (than my current card).

Obviously, I don't understand why manufacturer develops technology for longer range and faster speed, but cannot boost power output (probably FCC rule?).

If anyone know the right card for my situation, please let me know.

For your reference, personally I don't like PCMCIA card for convenience matter.
