Can anyone comment if aero does indeed work with vista using hte integrated. I was gonna get a laptop, but i decided to wait till Coreduo2. I will be willing to skimp out on the graphics since i dont play games, im more of a downloader/movie watcher/ dvd ripping.. i just want it to be able to fully support vista.

Anyone with vista on their machine able to give more details?

GMA 950 supports Aero Glass.

Hummmm .... Yes I can see it will support AERO Glass Interface, but as it is an integrated chip, it will steal a part ( 224 MB ) of the system RAM to make it own VRAM. The system will have less RAM so it will slow down.

You can see at www.dell.com/vista that you have to get a premium graphics card ( the ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 ) to profit of all the 3D effects of AERO.

So I would be safe and get the X1400. It delivers great performances ( some under-estimated the performances of this chip ) in games. Don't forget than the princpal component that determine the life of a laptop is the graphics card ! Better it is, longer will be the life of the laptop.

The graphics will steal only what it needs to run whatever is going on, on screen. It WILL NOT steal 224 MB all the time.

Getting the x1400 would be awaste since i dont play games and it sux anyways. I will go with the x1300. As long as it has the 128mb of ram on it, i guess i will be alright. I got awaiy with it for XP, i guess for vista im gonna have to budge and get the dam card

the x1300 has 64 megs onboard and 64 megs used by system memory (well.. 192 now with the latest drivers). The X1400 is 128 and 128.

It only uses how ever much memory is needed, but at high resolutions, it may need alot of memory to keep all the windows looking sharp. This isn't a game where you can comprimise video quality with performance. if I zoom a web page or word document to full screen, its gotta remain on a 1:1 pixle ratio.. no enlarge and resampling crap that creates blury text.
