I bought the e1405 and just returned it last week. The glare itself wasn't too bad, but there was some light leaking from the bottom of the screen. Also, the lcd isn't as sharp as other laptops. Some of the text for desktop icons seemed a bit "fuzzy." The combination of these two started giving me a minor headache after about 30 min. of use, but I may just be sensitive. My other complaint was that the latch doesn't fully close the lid, so you get some rattling during transport. It's too bad, because otherwise it's a good deal for a laptop.

I had the exact same problems and returned mine last week. It was also giving me headaches. The light leakage was ridiculous.

the screen isn't the best. moderate light leakage on the bottom of mine, and the colors look very "lifeless" for lack of better word. but i'm not picky about graphics, and i run dual monitor with an external lcd that looks much better.

What would be a suggested remedy to the problem? Does Dell have better screens that are 14.1" that you can order?

I've got an XPS m140 which is pretty much the same as the 1405. The true-life (shiny) screen took a day or so to get used to, but you can soon learn to "tune out" any reflections. The colors are bright and clean and I have no problem with fuzziness at all. Light leakage is minimal. A lot seems to depend on who made your display. Mine was made by AUO and it's just fine. Others have gotten the Samsung screen and haven't been as happy. You can't order a screen from a particular manufacturer - it's just the luck of the draw, although I have heard of some who keep returning their computer until they get a screen they like.
