Atheros WiFi and Cisco VPN client - m9700

I've been struggling with an issue the last few days, and I am pretty much at the end of my rope on resolving it.

The Atheros WiFi card in the m9700 seems to be completely incompatible with my Cisco VPN client (4.2 and now 4.6).

In the 4.2 version, as soon as I authorized and it was tunneling it, I'd get a BSOD every time. This was apparently a known issue with Atheros and Cisco VPN on the Unix side of things with the MadWifi driver. Something to do with Atheros registering the network id for the card as "athX" instead of the assumed and normal "ethX".

The Cisco VPN client (at least 4.2) makes an assumption that it is ethX and absolutely dies when you use it.

I updated to a newer client, and now it just hangs at connecting. (I have this machine sitting right beside another machine with a Linksys card (Inspiron XPS gen1) with the same client version and it works flawlessly.

I am debating just contacting AW and seeing if I can order the Airgo card or some other internal wireless that I can replace the Atheros with. Before I did that, I figured I would throw something out here to see if anyone had any ideas.

Update--
I completely cleaned the Atheros drivers off my system and marked it as a generic ethernet adapter and disabled.

Doing this allowed me to be able to use VPN on the system with the wired network card without problems (before it would still fail).

The solution I've arrived at is to order a different wireless card from AW, and install it myself (with them on the phone so as not to void warranty).
