Boot Camp on 17inch MBP - Page 2

Yeah, I'll never get used to seeing that blue Windows screen on a Mac.

...or to seeing people wondering how to wipe OSX off a Mac.

yes, the 17" is supposed to clock up during heavier use. www.barefeats.com has some info.

I'm not to sure if the 17inch comes underclocked or not, however what I did was I downloaded ati tool .25 and I manually put the clock to 450/450 and it runs fine. I play bf2 on 1400 x 1050 ( the highest that the display goes to)

The reason why I got the 17 inch laptop was because I wanted to get the best. I figured since I was going to get a laptop I should just go all out. I like the fact that the 17 inch comes with the fire wire 800 port because I use that often, also I seeing that I owned a 17inch inspiron xps gen 2, I don't think that I could have gotten a smaller screen. I need lots and lots of space on my screen.
Thats pretty much about it on the why.

Oh!! Another Fellow Dell Customer! I'm thinking of ditching my M170 for a MBP 15" to downsize. The only performance I really need is when I play wow. Figure if you play BF2, then the 15" should handle WOW perfectly, all settings up etc... Also I would need boot camp for development under Visual Studio 2005.

What HDD speed did you get? 5400RPM? That is one thing that I am curious about. Would it be worth while for gaming purposes to order online and get the 7200 RPM? And about the heat.. hasn't apple always had a heat issue? My wife has the 12" PB and that thing gets toasty. I used to have the 15" PB Titainium DVI and that thing got hot. The way I look at it, apple will always be hot since they use the small design. Not a lot of room to dispense the heat.

yeah I switched from Dell, hehe. I addressed the heat issue earlier in the post. however you should be able to play wow no problem on the 15 inch mbp.

thanks for the info...

yeah I'm having the same mentality as you C@lv!n... I was thinking of just getting the Macbook but if I'm gonna be dishing out all this cash I figure I pay extra and get more, but I think I will have to visit an Apple store just one more time to see the size of the 17-inch MBP before making the final decision, it's definitely at the top of my list though.

Well.. I did it. I went out yesterday and bought my Macbook Pro 15". I used to be into the Mac world a year ago. I owned the 15" Titanium and the 12" PB, but this machine.. I'm very impressed. It flies in OSX. I even tried WOW in OSX and it ran awesome with all graphics turned up. Granted Iron Forge tested it but I do only have 1gig ram in it. The other gig is sitting on the desk waiting to be installed. The 5400 RPM drive is working out well also, don't think I would get much of an improvement going to a 7200.

Anyhow, I'm gonna load boot came on it today and hope for the best. If this thing screams with Boot camp, not only am I getting rid of my M170 but I will also get rid of my Thinkpad T43 (which has problems with compiling my applications) and use my MBP for work.

Thanks,

djinn

How is the ATI Tool treating you? Anyone run it under a MBP 15" yet?
ive got it on the 13.3 macbook.

it runs nice, i just wish they would look into the power saving feature. xp turns the monitor off after X minutes, the mac will not do it, YET.

HI, 7-31-06

I HOPE SOMEBODY CAN HELP ME & ADVISE ME.

HERE’S MY MAIN QUESTION - CAN THE BUILT-IN CAMERA THAT COMES WITH THE 17” MAC BOOK PRO BE USED WITH YAHOO INSTANT MESSENGER? AND IS IT A PAIN IN THE BUTT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN?

I’VE GOT A $20, FLEX NECK, USB CAMERA THAT I USE WITH MY SON IN THE ARMY IN AFGHANISTAN & MY SON & DAUGHTER-IN-LAW IN IRAQ; ALL SOLDIERS. BUT I’D LIKE TO USE THE MAC BOOK PRO’S CAMERA, SINCE IT COMES WITH THE COMPUTER.

ALSO, HAS ANYONE FOUND A REALLY GOOD USB POWERED COOLING SYSTEM TO GO UNDER A 17” MBP? PERHAPS A COOLING DEVICE THAT TIPS THE SCREEN END OF THE MBP UP IN THE AIR A LITTLE.

NOW QUESTIONS FOR ALL YOU MAC “GURU’S” WITH YOUR PERSONAL CRYSTAL BALL. POOR ME IS DISABLED & LIVES ON A FIXED DISABILITY INCOME (ALL SAY ‘BOO-HOO’). I’M GOING TO SELL THIS IBOOK, G4, 1.42GHz TO MY SISTER-IN-LAW. SHE’S IN NO RUSH. I WANT TO GET THE ‘MOST BANG FOR MY BUCK’ WHEN I BUY MY 17” MBP. I USE IT AT MY BED SIDE - IT’S NOT REALLY MOVED OFTEN. I READ MANY RUMORS- WAIT TO BUY UNTIL MID-AUGUST BECAUSE THE NEW, SMALL IMPROVEMENTS WILL BE MADE TO THE 17” MBP. OTHER RUMORS SAY TO WAIT UNTIL THE FALL BECAUSE APPLE WILL BE PUTTING A WHOLE NEW CHIP IN THE 17” MBP. WHAT SHOULD I DO, ‘’GURU’S’’?

PLEASE CAST YOUR GAZES UPON YOUR CRYSTAL BALLS & GIVE ME THE INFORMATION WHICH I DESIRE! THANKS!!

PLEASE RESPOND VIA E-MAIL BECAUSE MY DSL IS SCREWED UP RIGHT NOW & I’M USING DIAL-UP. THANKS.

WAYNE

Please do not SHOUT.

One: Yes, the built in webcam can be used with Yahoo.

Two: I don't know about USB powered but many people seem to like the iLap.

Three: WWDC is this Monday. It is then we will find out about many new things from Apple, and it is hoped that the new Intel chips will be placed into the laptops then. If not at WWDC within the next month, surely. Wait until the new chips are put into the laptops before you buy.
