offhand i'd say use a playlist. u could basically create a duplicate of your library as a playlist and then play music from it while u work on your library. not absolutely sure it will work when changing ID3 tags, but worth a shot.
edit: just tried it. works fine. keeps playing from the playlist while working on the library.
