Is the 35% worthy

Hello everyone I was wondering if it was worth purchasing a notebook right now with the deals they have.

e1705
Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2400 (1.83GHz/667MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition
17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS
60GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
3Yr Ltd Warr, At-Home Service, 30Day DOC, PC Training, 2Yr Antivirus Suite

Unit Price $2,614.00
SAVE $100 (After mail in rebate) w SILVER BUNDLE
Dell EPP/FSS Customers: Save 35% off select Inspiron systems!
$2,614.00 - $914.90=$1,699.10
12% off systems priced $1600 and up with 3/4 yr At-Home service.
$1,699.10 - $203.89 = 1495.21
Dell EPP/FSS Customers: $50 off any desktop and notebook over $799!
$1495.21 - $50 = $1,445.21

I'm worried of 2 things. First is that deals will soon be gone forever, the second is that merom might be coming out and everything's price may drop like a rock.

Another question is if anything, what part of this would u improve (both through dell and not through dell)

Thanks everyone

I think you should try getting a bigger hard disk. And the price you got there is really a good price.

I'm debating the same thing too. I think the deals will come pretty frequentely. Prices are not going to drop that much, if at all the core duo 1 will be phased out quickly after merom comes out since they probably cost around the same to manufacture.

the 35% is about as big a discount as you're ever going to get.

He can upgrade that if need be. That and ram are easy.
Congrats, it looks good.

True but when merom comes out the duo core 1 will immediately be 2nd generation stuff. Will merom cost a lot more when it first comes out? Also i'm wondering if dell will do anything like change maybe the lcd or some other little things that makes it better once the new *model* comes out.

Yeah, but after the 35% off stacks with the 12% off, it's larger than the 40% off deal.

how long do u have to cancel and order. And is it true you can get 2% from prefered member and 5% for using discovery?

I got my E1705 this end of April using 40% EPP coupon + 12% EPP Warranty Discount + stackable $50 off $799 + $50 mail-in rebate. There are others who even got a better deal with the $100 off $799 or something instead of my $50 off $799 code. I didn't use DPA or fat wallet but imagine the extra discount added on....

I was looking for that EPP stackable + 35% last month when i purchased my e1705 as well counldnt find it at all, i just took the %35 off on mine.

that's probably the best discounts your going to get this year. i would jump on that deal. is that final price with shipping and tax. avoid the 9 cell you will probably be using the power outlet most of the time anyways. get a 100+7200rpm drive. 60 is puny...dare i say it. 100 gigs is puny in today's standards

i'm going for 9 cell... because i need it to last longer when i'm in classes or stuff. As far as HD, its not worth upgrading through dell. I'm just going to get the 60 gig then perhaps and external one. As long as its 7200 rpm i'm fine. I heard that Prefered Member gets an extra 2 or 3% and using discovery card gets another 5%. Also should i up my warenty to 4 year with complete care and add like the $100 because i'm going to college and all sorts of stuff could happen. aka someone tripping over cords and such.
