synaptics touchpad (?) causing crashes

Hi All,

First time poster here with a major pain concerning the Synaptics Touchpad on my new dv5121tx. (i've added the specs below if that helps).

This notebook was purchased as a desktop replacement, and so far i'm loving it's performance on all levels, except.....

The problem i'm experiencing is when manouvering the cursor via the touchpad, the notebook simply freezes, then shutsdown and restarts itself, closing down any documents or applications i had open. This would occur two to three times during use after first starting the notebook on any occasion, and then it would seem to operate "normally". I have not experienced the problem since i started solely using an external usb mouse.

Has anyone else had similar issues? is this a hardware problem or driver (there doesn't seem to be any updates on the HP website). Any suggestions or help would be soooo appreciated as it has proved to be incredibly frustrating.

thanks to all, Bones

I have the same system but not the problem....... far from it, this unit is rock solid..... try unloading the drivers and reload them, seems like you have an IRQ conflict

Drivers are here

I had driver problems when I first got my R4000 but it was solved by using the driver from the Synaptics site. It seams like you have a driver problem (most likely) or you touchpad hardware is defective (less likely) Try HP's drivers first and if that doesn't work get the generic Syntapics driver.

thanks guys, i will have a crack at reloading the drivers.

i was hoping it wasn't a hardware issue, so fingers crossed.

PS: Make sure to post back "the fix"....

You might try reseating, unplugging, re-connecting to see if it's a bad connection...
