Windows Vista Don't Bother - Page 5

Windows is like a power outlet. You can stick in two-prong and three-prong plugs (i.e. software/hardware). Even plugs of varying wattage. But you try to stick in a fork and it's bound to get fried. Windows (and other OS's) are just trying to support as many different plugs as possible, while preventing access to forks, but someone is bound to try and stick a fork in, nonetheless.

Vista is just and updated outlet (supports higher wattage/voltage), with a nice new faceplate to match your decor. Of course, you have to rewire (upgrade) your house for the new outlet.

Go shit in yer hat.

I wouldv'e expected better from Vista, beta or not. It's not like MS engineers don't know what they need to clean up right from the get-go.
Even as a beta with understandable bumps, bugs and inefficiencies, it still should be a bit better, IMO.

It take a big baby to use such language. Remember it's a beta it's post to be suckyyyyyyy. What do you expect for free?

i tried vista, but if you look at my sig... you'll see why i can't run it.

i have a 64mb graphics card, and vista crashed on me constantly.

i had to slam down all the nice looking graphics too, so i had to switch back

to xp pro.

oh, and systems these days aren't THAT much better. they are being made to be compatible to vista, but the ONLY difference is in the gpu. 128 mb is required to run vista smoothly. my sister's dell desktop has that "windows vista compatible" sticker on it, and it isn't that great. it just has a 128 mb gpu.

... and the problem is that the integrated graphics are by far the most popular option at the moment. Intel's GMA has something like 60-80% market share. Even if they do have 128MB now, it's still crappy shared memory, and is still unsuitable (yet capable) of running Vista. They should make the MINIMUM a "Dedicated" GPU with at LEAST 128MB and a MINIMUM of 1GB ram. I don't think anything else will cut it, no matter how lean they try to make the OS.

Isn't everyone with a laptop going to want to run Vista in some crummy 2D mode anyway? As soon as I start up some 3D app, my battery life goes to 4377.

As many people have already stated Vista is still in beta testing. I am sure that M$ will do some serious refining that will include tuning the system to be fully functional with an integrated Intel video chipset. It would not make sense for them to do otherwise.

Way too many people depend on the integrated solution & that would hurt M$ profit margins if 40% of laptop users were not able to run Vista at acceptable setting becauae they had integrated video. In addition that would also hurt Intel, which M$ isn't inclined to do.

As soon as Windows goes Gold I am sure the GFX requiremtns will be reduced. That's not saying you are going to be able to run Aero Glass effects, but there will be a compromise.
