Help lower my horrid boot time!

I have an Acer Ferrari 4006 WLMi. I bought it a few months ago...and for whatever reason the boot time is already horribly high. Booting to the Windows Logon screen is quick enough. However, it takes over a minute from the time I click on my log on name until I can actually do something. The computer seems to spend about 30 seconds doing nothing. I have even tried disabling everything in msconfig except for ctfmon and it still takes forever to boot. I don't get it.

I'm running Avast! and my OS is WinXP x64. Any ideas of what to try?

Hmmm. I was gonna mention MSconfig, but I guess you've already tried that. Maybe it's a bunch of spyware? Try sweeping your computer with multiple spyware detection devices, cuz' just one doesnt catch em all.

Bootvis download from Major Geeks

Sounds like you're working in the right direction. Even using msconfig to help remove unwanted startup programs won't stop all the dll's from being placed into the RAM - and installing more and more new programs is a huge culprit of Windows needing to access Dynamic Link Libraries for various applications. the Windows Task Manager won't show all the dll's in the RAM, but programs like TweakXP or WinTask 5 would allow you to view the various dlls currently, and possibly cluttering up your system. Avast is a major startup hog too, so look into your avast settings to see what you need and don't need running as a service of Avast.

Above is a great Microsoft Windows XP program that they offered as a download to visitors, and then it just went away, but a few places still offer it up. It's a developers Booting program, and lets you trace your boot performance, and optimizes the boot cycle by reorganizing all the XP startups and services on the platter. Worth a shot.

Here's the home of WinTask 5

I run AdAware and Spybot weekly if not more often. I have Avast! and I use the Windows Firewall.

I do have Bootvis. I have tried to use it but I don't quite understand what to do. It shows when everything starts up...but how do I know what I don't need when it comes to dlls?

What free AV software is there other than Avast! for WinXP x64?

Why keep cftmon? Do you talk to your laptop often? At all???

cftmon.exe is a part of the Microsoft Office suite and handles speech input for this product. This program is non-essential process to the running of the system, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.
