Screen problems with i6000D

I have an Inspiron 6000d that I ordered in Febuary. I'm not sure if I just never really noticed it till I got my desktop LCD, but my laptop screen has a LOT of backlight leakage. It's so bad that on a pure black screen, only a small strip of the middle is actually black, the rest of the screen is sorta dark grey.

Will dell do anything about this screen, or will they just give me the run around for a while and end up telling me "too bad, so sad, it's just the way the display is"?

Oh another thing I noticed after I put in my service tag (finally), is this line in my system config.
1UF414ASSEMBLY, BASE (ASSEMBLY OR GROUP), BOTTOM, DISCRETE 6000, DELL MEDIA DIRECT
Does this mean I'm supposed to have Media Direct? Because I don't, and there wasn't even an option to add it when I ordered, or I would have.

Thanks!

i6000s never had Media Dirrect.
Also, you caid you never noticed it, so is it really a problem?
You have to realize that maybe what you think to be light leakage is really just normal. If you really have a problem with it, then email Dell and ask them for a new monitor.

Well, I never noticed it because I'd always used CRTs. It wasn't till I got my desktop LCD, that I noticed the blacks weren't as good, and the backlight wasn't as uniform on my laptop.

I also never directly compared the HPs screen to the Dells, because I gave the HP to my dad two days before the dell came in the mail. I took a picture of the panel, if anybody wants to see it.

Well, if you think it's a problem, then go ask Dell for a new screen. It is really just up to you as to whether the screen is crap or not.
