I use the mouse that comes in the MX5000 bundle as well, the BT version of the MX1000. I couldn't find any other mouse that had everything else I wanted. I didn't even need the keyboard, although I do like it as well now th at I have it.
I too didn't want the extra wires. The charger for this bundle is seperate, which is very nice (it's not the BT Hub). The supplied mini-USB BT Hub isn't necessary, except for install. There is a guide on how to tweak your internal BT stickied up top so that logitech's software works with it.
As far as performance, my only complaint is that the keyboard is slow to wake-up. But that's only when you first sit down at the comp, so it's not an issue during gaming.
The only other complaint is that you have to buy the bundle to get the BT version of the mouse, and that the keyboards LCD isn't backlit.
Overall, I'd buy it again over any of the other options...for a laptop anyway.
