Hello Guys,
After reading lot of threads here to know about the structure of the paritions in HP's dv8000 series, I'm littile bit confused.

I wanna know what is the 1Gb "Unknown partition" is used for? is it for QuickPlay? and what is QuickPlay? (is it only a program for the multimedia stuff, and why it need a partition?)

I will be glad to get any details...

Best short answer I can think of:

Quickplay (QP) is s/w that allows you to play media files (music, dvd, ..) without booting WinXP. The QP name is also used to describe the environment (operating system) that is bring up the application, since you cannot directly access the operating system.

QP1.x = 200Mb partition that quickly (<15 secs) boots into a stripped down version of Linux to bring up the QP application.

QP2.0 = 1Gb partition that more slowly boots into a copy of WinXP Embedded (or maybe WinPE) to bring up the QP application.

So, yes when you see a 1Gb unknown partition it is QP 2.x.

Okie,
I got it.
to Run the QuickPlay from this Partition, I s hould Click on the "DVD" button on my notebook (while the notebook is turned off) and it will run.
I also see the "Windows XP Logo" while booting. (that means it's QP 2.x).
