which laptop would be best for me ?

hi everyone,

im new to posting in this forum, but have been browsing for a while now, as im on the search for a laptop. i currently have a desktop, and there isnt really to much wrong with it ( apart from graph chip aint great and a new proc wouldnt go amiss ) but i feel a laptop/notebook to fit with my lifestyle alot easier. please dont try to persuade me to buying another desktop, or not buying at all.

ill be buying off of www.laptopsdirect.co.uk most likely, so please dont point me to some of the more popular amrican sites, i dont want to buy from them.

Im mainly looking for a a gaming laptop, having all needed facilities and some of the newer and nicer ones aswell. it needs to beable to run the latest games, and have a life of at least 1 year. ill have a budget of around £1700 max ( around 2975 usd if i havnt completely miscalced ) to buy, and i need to i get good laptop out of this. to put simply and as loosly as possible, i need :

- a good graphics chip : run all the latest games.
- a fast proc : it needs to multi task well, fast and run everything
- a fair screen size, 14" minimum.
- transportable, i dont take it with me to work everyday, but it needs to be practical to move once in a while, and alright to play while on the couch, and a fair bat life.

- id like to have integrated bluetooth and wireless chip, if possible
- 100gb + hdd if poss, and 1 + gigs of ram.
- dvd rewriter would be nice.

please look only on the site listed.

ive come across a few, see what you think :
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/HP_Co.../version-1.asp

this seems to be almost best in everyway, im sure there is something i have missed tho.

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Asus_.../version-1.asp

a contender from the beginning, looks great, small portable, meets most of the criteria and seems to be very popular on these forums.

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Fujit.../version-1.asp

this lookms to good for the price, blows the other 2 away. i really wanted bluetooth though, does it make a lot of difference ? what have i missed ? is it not to good ? seems great for the price.

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Samsu.../version-1.asp

looks really nice, especially the screen. any good ?

and please do search for more. i hope someone can help me.

i dunno if you can get these in the UK, but i assume it wont be too much of a problem. I had the same criteria, and i ended up buying the HP dv8000t
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh...computer_store
I only got that laptop because of the crazy accidental damage warrenty HP offers, otherwise i would have gotten the ASUS s96j from gentech, http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant...duct_Code=S96J

those were the two best ones i found. You could go dell 1505 but you wouldnt be able to get as good graphics.

Asus S96J would be best for you. I think the can get one from that website, it has a x1600 which will play all of the latesg games at high/medium settings, and you can have up to core duo 2.16 ghz, 2 gb ram, and a 100 gb 7,200 rpm hdd. You can proaly get a S96J with all of the best stuff for 1800 $ so thas like i don't know maybe 1000 pounds

only problem is, there is no customization avaliable on the site im looking to buy from. and wont consider any others unless they have a uk site, and will have other ways to pay then a lumpsome.

i think the 3 i listed would probably be the best contenders, could someone take a look at them, and give some opinions ?

well the Hp you're looking at is essentially the same one i bought, so i like that one. I would only get that one out of the 3 if it came down to warrenty, since you can get a big one from hp. But if a long warrenty isn't too important, than i would always choose the ASUS.
