IDE.....ut2k3...

Hey, thats the box configured with Anti Aliasing of fonts, running latest devel GIMP and ut2003 windowed. This is Debian Sid unstable. Unfortunately due to IDE issues with the ICH3M ide controller ( Device not avalaible due to ressources collisions ? bios ? ) and no DMA enable on them, i am reinstalling The hdd is clean .......




Once again, screenshooting fixes the screen for one sec and really drops the fps, as it as explained in the 8886 review. I get around 45/60 fps with very respectable settings

Yes it is running natively When you buy ut2003, on the CD number 3, there is a linux_install.sh
The linux community was awaiting this game for along as they knew it will be playable and instalable under linux

Yes i am asking a question, and don't feel ya can't suggest, i learn everyday and am very happy to What ya running, RH or mdk ? What ever you do, can ya post the output of :
dmesg | grep DMA, or the two lines in the 'dmesg' command output that look like :
ide0:BM-DMA...bklahahahahha

As i said fps and average fps drops when you take a screenshot as you have to freeze the screen for a whole second. Full screen 1280x1024 32 bit, with medium settings everywhere, i get 45/60 FPS, so yes it is more than playable ...

As for comparaison, considering i haven't got windows on the laptop, i can compare with my desktop. Here is the configuration:
Athlon 2000+
512 DDR PC3200 400 Mhz RAM
Asus 7V8X mobo, KT 400 chipset

Hercules ATI 9000 128 DDR SDRAM dual head +TVout
80 Gigs 8megs cache Western Digital HDD Caviar special edition ATA 100
On this i run Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Debian Sid unstable. Maybe not the best MS OS to run games. Anyhow, latest catalyst on windows, and ATI proprietary drivers on linux. Here:
Quake3Arena 1024x768 32 bit FULL FULL settings (custom config)
Windows2k ADVSER 120/130 FPS
Debian Sid 190/220 FPS

As you know i am not that keen on microsoft, but i am NOT tricking these results. Both are running latest 1.32b point release of the game.
The good point for the windows is the stability, as the linux box doesn't like me too much alternating beetween console and X, playing movies or gaming one afetr the other. But the proprietary ati drivers are really fast on linux. Can't wait for a newer version....
