i know its not one of the newer games out there, but i never got around to finishing it with my old xps generation one... and now that i have a much better rig, i want to see what should i be setting my settings for the ebst overall game enjoyment.

I know i could try all settings myself, but i jsut want to know what you gusy recomend. Currently my settings are:

High detail
1280x1024
All advanced options enabled except vertical sync and anti aliasing.

By the way, my rig is an m1710 t2500
1gb ram
80gig HD
7900gtx card

Thanks again

settings

k i have a xps m1710 as well:

- 2.16 duo core
-100 bg 7200 rpm hardrive
-2 gb ram
-512 mb 7900 GTX (dell drivers w/ switched compatibility)
-advanced sound card

and most maxed out settings

I run it on ultra full with 1920 * 1200 and its fine, i turnd vsync off and all the antialiasing is full xpet for antistropic which is 8x and its running anywhere from 45 - 60 (its capped at 60 fps) and its smooth and beautiful. Plus I have some hdr lighting going on.

damn, for some reason, i cant get it to run at those settings. First i was only able to get resolutions up to 1600x1200. For some reason, nothing higher is listed. Also, i do nto see an option for HDR.
Second, if i run it at ultra settings, the game and intro movie are choppy to teh exteme... basically unplayable. I am wondering if i shoulf do a gaming profile and disable most of the non essential services..

Any ideas are welcomed

Did you set your screen to 16x10?

this is wierd. The max resolution i have is 1600x1200 and the aspect ratio options are only the default one and 16x9 (there is no 16x10).

What could be going on?

i just had to uninstall mine to due some punkbuster stuff finding out my quake 4 wuz not "original" lets leave it at that.

when i reinstall it ill benchmark etc and tell you what
I get, give me a couple of days. i suggest you run it at max settings with no antialiasing v sync or antistropic and youll be more than fine alright. if you want slowly raise the antialiasing and antistropic stuff until you reach your preferred frame rate, I suggest you stay away from v sync though.

dont forget my system is a little better than yours with the more ram etc.

Thanks, and please let me know whne you get a chance, how to enable the 16x10, the 1920x1600, the HDR (dont see an option there), and what results you get... thanks

Just out of curiosity, what driver set are you using?

i am using Video: nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS, GeForce Go 7900 GTX, Driver, Windows XP, Multi Language, Inspiron MP061, XPS MXG061, v.84.69, A01 from the dell website.

I did notice what i am able to select the 1920x1200 on other games like counter strike source and guild wars... so perhaps its my version of quake 4.

d00d i duno when im gonna get around to installing and benchmarking this stuf so i suggest run it on MAX EVERYTHING. and then slowly lower the antistropic antialiasing and turn off vsync until your at a comfortable frame rate.

Ok, i fixed it. It turns out I needed to download the 1.2 patch that enables duo core support and the 19:10 video.

Now i am able to do most settings, yet it is still impossible for me to have a playable game at ultra high settings and 1920x1200.

So basically i settled for 1920x1200 all high detail, all setting on, except anti aliasing nor vsync.

plays smooth as butter.

I'd suspect the 1GB of RAM is keeping you from getting a playable game out of the Ultra settings. If you slapped another gig of ram in there you should be fine.

thank guys.

I still have a bit of envy about not being able to do ultra high settings, but hopefully i am not missing out on much.
