Very upset/8 month old Toshiba M55-S3293

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting in this forum. I hope Im at the right place.

I never thought I would be looking for a forum on notebooks, hehe....... Unbelievable the day that I have had.......my M55-S3293 froze.....Ctrl/alt/del

Windows could not restart because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\windows\system32\config\system\
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using original setup cd-rom select r at first screen to repair

no screen after that......... I was so excited later when I finally was able to (only once) get into safe mode and I restored to last week. It didnt help. I was trying to do everything possible before calling Toshiba. :bored

my main concern is I do not want to recover!!!!!! I want to Repair
when I put the Toshiba Recovery and Application disk in it says ......a disk read error ocurred, press control.alt.delete to restart

Well, just when I thought I was getting some where, Nope.....thats all I get even when disk is out. I have not been able to get to safe mode again.

I finally called Toshiba to find out that I cannot repair, I have an OEM and I can only recover ......... I am so upset with this. I've always had a repair options in the past with other pc's. Why would my error say to select r to repair and I dont have that option...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

My M55 is like new......I didnt download anything new or deleted software. Toshiba said this happens when adding harware or deleting. NOT ......I haven't added anything. Why today???

I have antivirus software, adaware and spyware always updated.

I really have almost given up . Toshiba gave me a service location in my area, of course not covered with warranty. To back up my notebook, before recovering.

Im just hoping that some1 has some new input for me.

I can get into Bios, but not familiar with it
?????can i get some where new by going to Bios????

I am not a pro, but have owned quite a few pc's, I have never run into this before.

Thanks in advance for any Toshiba Input

Same thing happened to me man. I had a error on windows startup, the fix I found online was to simply do a repair using windows disc. I called Dell and they sent me out a disc, which doesn't have the repair feature, nor does the partition with the originial windows from Dell in it. So, I had to delete all my files and reformat. Boy was I pissed...

in other words, windows corrupted for some reason, only solution at this point is to start fress

why dont you see if you can borrow an xp installation disc from one of your friends. as long as you're not reinstalling with unpurchased licenses, just repairing an existing licensed os, there is nothing illegal about it. it looks like the only option you have right now so do the repair- you won't lose existing data or programs unless you ask to format too.

You could always put the drive into an external enclosure, and boot it up on another pc, transfer or burn your files, and reformat. Exactly what I'm doing right now actually after a failed install of an os that messed the partition table badly because of my stupidity... lol

This is, ladies and gentlemen, why we partition our drives and store our "My Documents" folders on a drive other than C:\.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions..............I lucked out, for some crazy reason the laptop is up and running this morning.........I did a system restore, to an earlier date and ran all my updates.........

Quick question.....I was reading up on some registry cleaners online yesterday...... Is this recommended or not???
If so, I would like to have the actual disk instead of downloading online, what would you recommend I buy at BestBuy to hopefully prevent this from happeneing in the future?
This is one of the links:

System restoring, generally speaking, works. But it needs to be atleast 3 weeks or 4 weeks prior. 1 week usually doesn't do anything for me.

adaware and spyware tend for some reason to do this...why ??? i don't know.
For some time I put microsoft spyware in a couple of laptop and didn't receive any bad feedback yet. Avast is an antivirus I use in my laptop and everything go well. The first day i bought my laptop Tecra A4 I format my HD and install the original Xp on it. I download all the driver separately still no problem for now.

Some good Spyware programs which are free are SpywareBlaster (whch runs all the time in the background and keeps spyware from loading). You must update it every few days to get new signatures. AdawareSE and Spybot Search and destroy. Always use a couple of these utilities as no one utility will find them all. A good AV program (updated or on auto update) plus a good firewall are all necessities

Of couse there not the only good one...but with them you don't have to worry about update, when you are connecting to internet they do it by themself.
If you're always connect like my self once a day they do an update and they tell you they done it. For firewall I'm using xp till now no problem. I answer this thread because of the experience i have with laptop and desktop (15 years), for a couple of year I try alot of combination and for now, this is the best I try. Like the said don't worry be happy and I am, until I find another one.

XP firewall is pretty much useless as it only blocks incoming. It does nothing for those nasties which may be on your computer that are "calling home" as it doesnt block outgoing as most good firewalls will
