I have been transferring some very large video files that my friends and I filmed from his house to my house over the internet (basically just figuring might as well use up all his extra upload bandwidth and my download to avoid burning all the videos etc). Unfortunately my dad DOES use the internet and IS noticing that I have gobbled up all the available bandwidth so he is back at pre 56k speeds
Is there any way that I can somehow give his computer a set amount of bandwidth so that he can surf the web in peace and/or give his computer priority access so that it can take whatever bandwidth he needs and leave the rest for my file transfer? The only solution I have found so far is pausing the transfer during hours when he uses the computer but it seems like there should be some way to divide the bandwidth up so that I don't have to worry about it. Any ideas?
I am using a netgear wgr614 router, he is on a desktop pc and I am on my macbook which is hooked up via ethernet at the moment. I would be really greatful for any ideas
