XPS w/6800 vide card, LCD or vid card problem?

Display has a bunch of noise. The noise can only be described as purplish fuzziness. Do you think this is a video card or actual LCD/monitor problem?

Here is another update. I can see the display using an external monitor using the VGA out but, as soon as it loads the desktop, it won't let me switch to the external monitor no matter what I do. Could this also imply that the video card is bad on this unit?

Process of elimination; hook up an external monitor to your xps. If it works with an external monitor then you know that it's your xps's LCD. If it's your card, hopefully it's just a matter of updating you video drivers. Good luck.

What if it has two video ports and one is DVI and the other is VGA. Currently I don't have an adapter that will fit the DVI but the VGA comes out fine. However I still believe there is something wrong with the video card and not the LCD itself.

Does the problem occur all the time, or randomly? Do you have the later model xps, or the older genx model? Did you also mention that it worked with an external monitor hooked up to the VGA ports?

Right. The VGA output works, and the display doesn't look distorted but like I said I haven't had a chance to test the DVI port. Would that even make a difference or no? If the VGA out is fine, is it same to assume that the LCD is the one giving me problems?
