Tips and Advise for 9890

I've had this thing since last November. Just had to have the HD and KB replaced. Now my USB ports are not recognized and it blue screens when running my PMCI Wireless card. Have installed all current update drivers. Can't find the BIOS update anywhere online. Then found out the drivers offered on the Sager website are outdated when I got them from the manufacturer's sites. This thing also runs EXTREMLEY hot. (I know this is common) Can anyone offer any tips on what things I can do to help this thing run a little smoother or what utilities work best to optimize operation? Also looking for a cooling tray that is big enough to help cool this thing down. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks..

Another member names Kilim is using the lapcool4 from Vantec. He is using it on the Sger NP5760 and has reviewed it saying it is one of the best cooling pads out there. Have you looked into cleaning out your intake vents?

How long ago did the system stop recognizing the USB's? (you may want to do a system restore if it was after a software/hardware update)

keep it higher off the desk...

.25-.5 inches in front.... .3-.6 in back....

and make sure that there is room for the hot exhaust air to move away....

those simple things can help, alot!

sell it^^
its the greatest lie of all:"replaceable graphic card"
it bought mine for 2400€ and the graphic card (6800rev.2) and its not possible(for 1200€ it would be possible :P )to replace it!!!

i had to send it away to be repaired.....it got too hot.....i did not overclock it or anythink.....it just thought"ok i could burn my motherboard" and it did.... no usual notebook would do that......

best regards.....honk

*sry for my english*

The graphics card is replaceable. Just not by the end user every time.

I recomend making sure your unit is dusted and buying the Spire Pacific Breeze cooler. At least 1 D900 user has one and it works great on his. Several other people own one as well, including me, and it is awesome, lowered my temperatures by about 7-8C.

no normal nb gets too hot(!!!) the only nb where u have to do a lot about cooling(buying an cooling pad, putting it higher, using getthermal)(!!!)
and an cooling pad doesnt replace the graphic card.....if i wanted to sel it i would get 700€(maybe 900€) its only 1 year old and i bought it fpr 2400€!!!!
now my cevo reseller got an inet gangster and went out of germay or what ever so my 3years plus gold warranty which coted 300€ is off........*cry*^^

it IS a lie

The D900 isnt a normal purchase Many people who buy one know this and are willing enough to take the risk. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your notebook, but to troll on Sager and Clevo as a whole isnt right. Theres a lot of very satisfied people here on this forum and a lot of satisfied people not on this forum. The fact that your reseller left you high and dry isnt right and I may consider legal action if I were you, but that also is not the fault of Clevo or Sager. They didnt lie about a replaceable video card. People can take it out and replace it with another clevo video card easily enough. Its just a bunch of screws. With the latest motherboard revision, you could easily swich between a GeForce 6800, 6800 ultra, 7800gtx, 7900gtx, a Radeon x700, x800, or a Quadro 1400. Most newer clevo models could IN THEROY use all of those video cards too. I heard of a case here on NBF where someone was trying to get a 7800gtx to work in a Sager 5320. I dont know if he succeeded though.

Now back to helping Steve. Like I said, Spire Pacific Breeze.

We updated the bios and replaced the hard drive. so far so good. I blow air thru the vents and screens constantly. I have a targus cheapy cooling tray but it really isn't big enough, and the fans don't line up with anything. I have a utility that monitors the temps for the CPU and HD. I also have a small fan that blows air onto the intake vents. this laptop is basically a DTR for me so i really have no complaints, Besides, this thing endured 6 months in Iraq. Does anyone know any other tricks that might help keep this thing cooler? Thanks again

Do you know what temps you're running at?
