refurbished macbooks?

Thread Starter
guys, i noticed that there are some refurbished macbooks on apples website for $949. i was wondering what "refurbished" could mean on a product this new. I know that some companies 'refurbished' items are handled much differently than others.
I'm a poor college student trying to get my mb for cheap. Can anyone give me any input on refurbished apple products? Would it be scratched up? Dead pixels? bad battery? etc?
Thanks guys,

Generally "refurbished" to Apple means someone bought it and returned it within the 14 day return period. They can't label them as new because someone did own it but they can restore the computer to factory and label it a refurb.

I was told at the apple store that when someone returns one within the 14 day period they are charged a restocking fee BUT then when it is sold "refurbished" they supposedly DO NOT charge the next customer a restock fee IF they return it.

I would verify this then take a shot - you'll having nothing to lose.

Verify if the time frame is still 14 days on the "refurb".
