Question on battery life..

Hey guys,

I just got my new Dell Inspiron E1705 today and I want to make sure that I'm not doing anything wrong since this is my first laptop. Is it alright to leave it plugged in most of the time and in standby? Will that like decrease the tme that the battery lasts before I have to get a new one or something?

Thanks a lot,
Zack

If you're using ur laptop plugged in most of the time, why not take out the battery out of it, put it in a bag (to stop dust from getting on the contacts) and then store it in a cool place.

Make sure the battery is charged about 45% when you want to store it and not more or less, because it lasts the longest around 45%.

its fine if you want to do that. but taking it out is better. and i have no clue about the 45% charge thing

see, i always thought about that "what if" scenario of the power going out... then your laptop shuts off, but what if you were working on something and lost it. you wouldnt have that problem if you left it plugged in...

my tc4200 has been used for a year now and the battery still lasts 7hours on battery save and 4hours with wifi and sound

is there a program that will keep the battery charged to ___ %. it seems like the best idea would be to keep the battery in on ac power but charged to 40% max. i have heard ibm's natively have this ability. a program for other brand laptops would be useful.

myself- battery is a little over a year old, rarely take it out but rarely let it drain out. on normal usage, it dropped from approx 4 hours to barely 2. have cycled it periodically and taking it out it does not feel warm or hot from other components so heat is not a likely issue. probably keeping it charged at 100% constantly is the culprit.

Put the battery in the freezer over-night. Wait for it to warm up and dry it off.

I know this doesn't sound like it makes a whole lot of sense , but it does work . The freezer rejuvenates the battery somehow. I keep all of my rechargeble batteries in the freezer.

that helps before you use the battery. and it only helps it to not lose the charge it already holds. not relevant here.

Actually I've had batteries that would not charge up to full capacity anymore. After a night in the freezer, they once again started working.
