Alright , i did not realize the new core 2 duo's were coming out so soon and for supposivly real cheap prices. I just got a macbook that should be coming in the mail in a day or 2. Should i open it and mess around with it for the 14 days and if i hear no news on the new laptops just keep it. The thing is i need a good laptop for audio production, i am sure this one will be fine, but i wont be able 2 afford a new laptop since i am in college and usually broke. I still will have to pay back for the macbook. Do you think apple will be putting the core 2 duo's in the macbooks pretty short after they come out. Are the new chips going to support more ram or are they going to be using the same motherboards? anyways ya i know its alot of questions but im brand new to macs and want to have a great experience. I decided on the black macboook and have 2gb of ram waiting for it and was going to trying and find the best 100-120 gb 7200 rpm drive online tonight. (anyone have any recommendations , lower powerconsumption, heat?)

thanks for all your time again

seagate and hitachi are your best bets for 100gb 7200 drives.

since the system is a laptop, it will still be limited to 2gb (?) of ram, most laptops are (except for some high-end 17" models) although theoredically a 64bit cpu does support more ram than a 32bit one. so ram is not a problem here.

the big difference will be 64 vs 32bit, but I don't see osx going 64 bit anytime soon, not until at least the next major release so you will be able to upgrade the OS later, but not off the start, i could potentially see apple giving a ilcense exchange program much like MS did for XP Pro users who wanted to try XP x64.

even w/o the 64 bit part, the meroms will overall be quicker, and from what i am hearing cheaper, but don't expect that price difference be reflected in the laptop price, simply a higher profit margin for apple.

if you at all can wait till september, i would send the one you're getting back, and just stay put.

although apple has a very poor history about jumping on the bandwagon with the latest technology, so just because meron is out in september, doesn't mean the new mpb will be.

I would suggest you dbl ck with the apple store about their 14 day policy because they told me there is a restocking fee should you open it & return it within the 14 days.

Yes you can do video editing quite well with it. It even comes with video editing software.

Certainly, you can do this with the current MacBook. This system is quite fast as is...and yes, the next gen will be faster...but just how fast do you need to go?

I would take the current MacBook and enjoy it. When the new ones come out, you can sell the current one - or better yet - keep using the one you have for quite some time!

yeah...apple gives you the ilife suite, some of us consider it bloatware, others find it useful, whichever....but it comes with tools to let you do that stuff at a reletively "noob-friendly level" ...you'll need final cut pro to take it to the next level. but if you're still mezmorized by the myth that "apple is the best for media editing" ...don't be. perhaps at some point it might have been true, years ago... but hte PC platform has more than made up lost ground since then, now its purely a matter of preference.

ya im pretty good with final cut and premiere, but dont i need a good graphics card to run these?
I say go ahead and keep the MB. I don't see the MP getting Merom anytime soon. The MBP will get Merom, but since the MB is a non-pro model it won't get the bump up to Merom for a few months possibly not until after MWSF.

BTW, Mac OS X has been 64 bit for a couple of years now.

Video is done by the processor. The integrated graphics is enough for FCP and Premiere. You'll notice the slow down in applications such as Motion that rely on the video card to overlay realtime effects.

I agree - Kakaze, you're doing better than I am. I need to exercise restraint! I just can't understand why people frequent certain sections when they obviously don't like the product

Things've been quiet for the most part so it's been easy to just ignore the one person whom I would've argued with.

lol...like I said...why hang out in an area where you don't have much helpful to contribute - just to be negative? But yes, I can understand why there might be a need to save those of us who are not as intelligent from the evil of all things Apple !!!1

What happened to everyone's rep anyway?

There are some threads in OT if you want the details (but I doubt you do ). Short version: because people were topping out in rep, it was changed and all rep was cut significantly. Some people got upset, some don't care - but it created some angst. They are working on some new changes...so we shall see).

was basically reset to try a new system which may better keep rep whores at bay.
