How do you run benchmark tests??

HI.

I have an 9300 with gig of ram and 1.86 Ghz processor. Somehow I feel my laptop is slow and want to know how to run benchmark tests? In this forum I see people posting benchmark scores..please let me know if I need to download any benchmarking software and run them?

And also for my laptop what kind of minimum score should I get assuming I am no computing nerd nor do I use my lappy for any gaming...just your eveyday joe using it for spreadsheets and photoediting and stuff..
