Did a full format and xp re-install..bit of help plz?

Hey guys, did a complete format and re-install after getting my new Area51m, couple of questions please..

Ive installed all the drivers fine, a couple of things that are annoying me:

My graphics adaptor used to display "ATI Radeon 9600/9700 PRO" in device manager..now it displays "MOBILITY RADEON 9600"...which im sure is the older driver, although i have installed 7.95's from the AW cd.

Also, in Event viewer i keep getting Error ID 7000 to do with "SmartLinkService" failing to start (prob due to a missing file)...does anyone know what this smartlinkservice is, what its related to, and how i can fix the problem?

Cheers- i love my AW

Are there any newer drivers available from ATI's website?

You want to use either the Omega drivers from www.omegacorner.com or the official Alienware 7.96 drivers. Links to both can be found at the top of this forum base (Peer to Peer Section).

Has anybody else seen this? I'm pretty sure mine has always said "RADEON Mobility 9600" with whatever drivers I'm using.

I've never seen 9700 written in any of the device manager specs.

Cheers guys,

Im currently still on the "MOBILITY RADEON 9600"...im going to download the latest from AW when i get to work and have the quicker connection..

Does noone know about the event viewer problem im having?

Also- should i need to install drivers for the flat panel? Hopefully to improve the slight bit of ghosting i am noticing? At the mo i just get "Digital Flat Panel (1600x1200)" in Device manager under "Monitors" (aswell as two "Default monitors")...?

This is normal for the screen. Neither Alienware nor uniwill has released a driver for the screen. the windows defaulkt one eems to work just fine....

Unless someone here has ripped their lappy apart and know who actually manufactures the screen??

I heard it was a Hitachi somewhere?

Except Hitachi doesn't list any 16.1" displays.
