IBM R50p

Is this notebook all that's it's cracked up to be?
Many of the writers wax lyrical about it's features but is it really that far in front of the others - should I just go for the Dell 8600 ?
I have reservations that the FireGL video card will perform as well as 9600 Radeon in the new generation Dx9 games - does anyone have some specific knowledge?
I'm considering buying this week but does anyone know if IBM is planning any imminent upgrades on it's specifications?
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Performance wise, the i8600 and R50P are roughly the same, but the IBM will take a lot more abuse and you will probably like it more in the long run. From what I've heard and what I know of IBM/Dell (I have a Dell i8100 and my friend has an IBM from the same generation) the IBM will last longer and run quiter and cooler. Also check out the HP/compaq nc8000 (128 mb radeon 9600) or ncw8000 (Fire Gl T2) or prehaps the nc6000 (64 mb radeon 9600).
