How to increase Video memory?

Anyone here got a Sonoma with onboard graphics? If yes, for heaven's sake tell me how to increase the amount of video memory to 128 mb (the max possible with onboard)

I have got Sony Vaio FS840 (1.73 Ghz, 1.5 gigs ram, 100 gb hdd, onboard graphics) and i tried to increase the amnt of shared RAM using the BIOS (this machine got PHOENIX BIOS) but cudn't find an option there to do so. Does antyone knows a utility or something for doing this...?

It's almost ALWAYS in the BIOS. If it's not there, no dice.

I'm guessing it's Intel graphics...if that's the case you can't manually allocate the amount of memory given to the graphics system. It's dynamic, taking as much as is needed up to the maximum of 128 MB.

yeah, i think i read somewhere that it automatically adjusts how much video ram it "borrows" from the system ram when it needs it...

mine 900 is somehow always using 128. and its pretty poitnless since i only surf the web and read on it

I have a Dell 9200 w/ ATI Mobility 9700. I use the Omega drivers, and I can "overclock" the GPU and video RAM, but I do not understand how this works.
The BIOS defaults are GPU: 445.50 MHz, and GPU Memory: 263.25 MHz.
I'm a bit confused about what these values are refering to. They're speeds, but of what? For example, is the memory "speed" like a "bus" speed?
I can "overclock" the GPU speed quite a bit, but not the memory speed very much.
The card is a "128 bit", "128 MB" card. Not quite sure what the "128 bit" thing is, nor am I sure if this card will take memory from my system.

it will not take memory from you system. the 9700 is dedicated. 128bit means the ram is 128bit. most of the recent laptops are 256bit.

Actually, the 128-bit means that the memory-GPU interface has a bus width of 128 bits, not that the RAM itself is 128-bit. Most high-end parts (e.g. the 7800, 7900, x1800, x1900) have a 256-bit memory interface. Most midrange parts (e.g., the 7600, x1600, x1400) have a 128-bit memory interface.

Psychokitty, the GPU clock speed is what it says it is: it's the clock speed of the GPU itself. The memory speed is the internal clock speed of the 9700's 128mb of dedicated memory. And aintz is correct, you can't add extra RAM to a GPU.

How do you come to know its taking 128 MB...in my case am unable to see how much video memory exactly is being taken off by the system...i used System Information and task manager and there isnt a way to see that number.

dxdiag should tell you.
