Dell Operating System Disc Question

Thread Starter
Both my XPS 200 and XPS M140 have Windows XP Media Center Edition. I only recieved a operating system CD with my XPS 200, but If I need to reinstall XP on my M140 can I use the CD that came with my XPS 200?? I heard that I could but I wanted to make sure before I reinstall and am not able to activate it.

Check out this thread if you need the other apps from Dell (i.e. PowerDVD and Sonic Burner)

I'd love to wipe my whole hard drive and start fresh but don't have the dell software (windows media edition). What are my options?

Download a copy of Windows MCE from somewhere, use the key at the bottom of your laptop to install it. Install drivers from Dell's website. Enjoy.

If you want to be safe, download the Dell chipset, etc. software from support.dell.com and then burn it to a CD. That way, you can install the drivers after loading up a clean copy of Windows.

Ok thank you. Where would one download a copy of MCE? I have all the drivers and everything downloaded already and burned to DVD.

Nowhere, legally.

Your best legal option is to go to Dell tech support and whine until they send you a reinstallation cd.

I believe the dell reinstallation CD installs the bloatware back on the system after the windows installation as well.

So how do you get full Windows disc from Dell without all the extra crap on it? If I buy a new pc directly from Dell, or here from Tech, can I get a separate full copy of Windows without bloatware from them?

Dell's OS CD does NOT I repeat DOES NOT Install ANY additional software on your system. It doesn't even install drivers.
