Okay, so I'm getting a bad vibe here.
I started my tech career at AOL (yeah yeah). Used to be, AOL would put you
through three weeks of tech training. This involved things like basic tech, a
whole week on modems (this was back in the day), and a week on internet
and the AOL software. They then put you on the floor with a database of
common issues and how to solve them to fall back on. It became
commonplace for folks to get hired, go through the training, spend a few
months on the floor then quit and get better jobs. This got expensive for
AOL, so they killed the training and just taught new recruits on how to use
the database, so you started getting logs of wannabes on the phone who
couldn't troubleshoot their way out of a wet paper bag.
That said, how can someone whose job it is to troubleshoot problems with
the laptop not know about one of the coolest little doodads on the machine?
Have these guys not even laid their hands on one?

There, I feel better.
