I'm wanting to replace the LCD on my brother's former 'new' Inspiron 9300 laptop. He fell this past winter on campus and the LCD took the brunt of the blow inside his backpack. Everything still worked fine on the unit, except the LCD, which is cracked inside (you can see the spiderweb looking pattern from the actual point of impact, when the backlight is on when powered on). He got a replacement laptop and I've been letting my mother use the 9300 with an external monitor hooked up to it with no problems. It originally had the WUXGA 1900X1200 (part # J9662 as listed on the configuration sheet).
I'm wanting to replace it with a WXGA+ 1440X900 screen (a LTN170WX-L05) as they're much cheaper to purchase new, and mom's current older external LCD screen's native resolution is is only 1024X768. My question is: Can I just swap the LCD itselt as described in the 9300 service manual and be up and running again with it?? If I do the swap, will the machine automatically recognize the change and go on, or are there other things that I would need to account for such as the video card, bios, other components, etc?
ANY help / advice would be GREATLY appreicated to get it up and running again!!
THANKS!
