Bought my Macbook today :)

Thread Starter
yep...bought my first macbook today from amazon. It was cheaper buying it from them...even after considering apples student discount. Anyways...im very excited about it and im expecting great things from apple.

Im looking to upgrade the memory in my macbook. I am aware that the macbook uses 5300 speed ram but would it be okay for me to use 4200 speed?

Finally, Does anyone know if there is such thing as a silicone case that would cover the entire laptop? similiar to a cell phone case? I just want something to protect my new baby.

Hi kadave...

Make sure you use 5300 speed ram.. :-)

Otherwise, I hope you enjoy your Macbook... Personally, I thought it was plenty fast w/ the stock ram, but then again I'm coming off of a 12" PB.

Once again you're completely out of line. Why do you have to rain on the guy's parade?? Can't you just congratulate him and wish him well? This thread isn't about you, what you use or what you do or don't like, so nobody cares if you're disappointed, and the move was fine if he's happy with his order. Kadave, congrats on the new machine. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and that it'll suit you well. @Triadone: Isn't it time to do something about abf's trolling in these forums? He's got the right to post, but not when they're insulting as is the one above.

You WERE insulting, because you inferred the OP was "Stupid" for having purchased a MacBook now. Maybe that is part of the problem - you don't mean to come across as insulting, but you do. We worry about your trolling because it creates negativity when there is no need. Back on topic to kadave - for what the MacBook does, there is absolutely no need to be concerned about the arrival of the next CPU, whether it is merom, merlin, or vader...The MacBook is plenty fast with the current CoreDuo Intel processor, and I'm sure you will enjoy it. No one knows when/if the MacBook will be released with merom. The Core Duo 2 (or whatever it is) is just being introduced to desktops. Even when it is readily available for notebooks, Apple may not jump in right away -- and that's assuming there is a ready supply of the new CPUs...

How 'bout you quit worrying about what others purchase; it's none of your business. As you stated, it's your trolling which is the problem. You're not only a troll, though, you're irritating, mocking and apparently clueless as to your insulting manners/mannerisms. Given that you've been repeatedly called out on the manner in which you post in these forums, even your young age is no longer a factor. You're simply rude and obnoxious - you obviously don't care about how other members feel.

the dude asked for some input, so what i did is give him HONEST input, not what you think he wants to hear on "oh, congrats"....because that geos without saying.

and eventhough for a base system like the MB, the speed-boost of Merom in 32-bit isn't very crucial, its the 64-bit factor that plays in HUGE...it automatically opens the door for future OSes, better performance, and higher flexibility.

The "dude" asked specific questions, and in no way invited criticism of his purchase. On your own "initiative" you offered the insulting comments on the stupidity of the move to purchase before the release of Merom.

Quit making lame excuses for your posts. Instead, just stop the damn criticism and trolling.

Congrats!

You can use the 4200 RAM but it will force the rest of the memory to run at it's slower speed. I don't know if the reduction in memory speed will be noticeable or not.

There was a company that made silicon skins for Macs but I don't think they're around anymore and I'll be damned if I can remember their name anyway. Best thing would be to get a sleeve so it's protected when it's not being used. Shazza posted a thread about a sleeve she got which looked really nice; it's worth a look.

nice edit, triadone!

It took me a minute to catch the edit...Triadone, thanks for trying to clean up the mess.

Likewise, Triadone. Your method makes a better point with our little trolling buddy than any of my posts.

np, i could just delete the original and all that relate to it, for the purpose of removing said negativity from this section of the forums. instead, i like to try and make a point with it. if someone's negative post is just deleted then some people are left unaware of the kinds of comments that certain members may make. this way, a little fun can be had with it and the questionable poster at hand doesn't get the convenience of anonymity to newer members who may not be familiar with his/her posting record. kinda like a literal history of things which may have contributed to someone's negative rep.
