Oh boy, Now what to do. Meroms on it's way. - Page 2

not after a year they wont. and my has 1019days left. and lol slatye you have no clue what the heck your talking about. if i spill water on my laptop and break it right now and i call dell support they have to fix it within 24hours by coming over to my house or they break the warrenty deal
post #22 of 43
What Slatye is trying to say is that:
1) In order for your CPU to be replaced, you must have symptoms of a faulty CPU. Simply spilling water on your keyboard will not result in the symptoms indicative of a faulty CPU. At worst, your system will no longer boot after a liquid spill. Replacing the motherboard and/or battery will usually fix that, and not reuqire replacing the CPU.

2) Slatye is also correct when he says that they will not give you a free upgrade to a Merom, simply because they will have so many spare/refurbished parts in stock to replace your Core Duo system. On top of that, when Merom does get released, they will probably put it in a system with a new model number. Your particular model number may not be Dell-approved for use with a Merom (even though it may be hardware compatible). If this is the case, they will not put a Merom in a system that was never rated for Merom use.

3) If Dell discovers intentional damage to laptop, your 1019 days of warranty support will suddenly drop down to 0. Depending on your level of support, you may or may not be covered even for accidental damage, like liquid spills.

4) If you are going to say that some one has "no clue what the heck your talking about':
a) Learn to capitalize. The Shift key exists for a reason.
b) It's spelled "you're"... a contraction of you+are.
If you are going to imply that someone is an idiot, it is generally more effective when you don't look like one "you'reself" (intentional misuse of you're).

yes i know all those things. and i really dont care about spelling on some forum...

Yes i know. Like i said i want a Conroe Desktop processor in a laptop. Which they WILL make. My current laptop has a desktop processor in it. I dont want my laptop to throttle down. Ide prefer full speed, full time.
Just out of curiosity, is it just the throttling issue, or do you want raw performance too? Because there are ways to get a laptop processor never to throttle down, and run at max speed all the time.

Ok Merom is on its way....Oh noes....Im so excited for a 20% increase and 64bit(sarcasm). The specs dont interest me until a couple years from now. Till then im happy with Yonah and its speed.

lord, you aint gonna get a Conroe in a laptop as there is Merom for that. Unless you specfically beg for one to be put into a notebook, not going to happen.

I have actual insurance to cover my notebook. I can have up to a 60k notebook and they will replace it oh yeah did I mention I don't need to pay a deductible?
No offense but what does insurance have to do with Merom? Ok you can get any notebook possible but why post here?

I'd wait until the thing (gimmick) three further in the future than MerMom and Corn Row comes out. You apparantley haven't had the need for a laptop so far, and I guarantee the thingy that comes out the day after you buy into the Corn Pone and Mormem technology is gonna be better, and initially more expensive. Or you could do what most of us have done and buy a laptop because you need one.

Ya the same thing was said about the Prescott desktop processor, and i currently have one in my laptop.

A number of Taiwan notebook makers plan to roll out notebook models using Intel's forthcoming Conroe desktop processors instead of Merom processors, which are designed for the notebook market, as Conroe will enjoy a price advantage over Merom, according to sources at the makers.

You can read the rest.
yes there are going to be conroe laptops for sure
post #36 of 43
So Conroe might be put into notebooks...hmmm interesting. I wonder how big these things might become and is there any more updates since the article you have posted is a month old and there isnt any new stuff.

Also with Conroe, its a Desktop based processor, so there who knows if there will be power mangement technology that Merom is able to have or even companies going with the option of putting Conroe's in notebooks.
Conroe in a laptop would really be meant for a DTR (desktop replacement) laptop. One thats always plugged in. Its mobil as in you can move it easy. but not really use it like a low power notebook. And this is exactly what i want
post #38 of 43
im not sure about this but i heard that they are producing a single core conroe (or merom) that operates at 1.66ghz or close by that uses below 1W of power

If its just a matter of "weeks" then wait. When it becomes "months" then you have to ask yourself how serious you are about upgrading.

Mere weeks and saving a ton of dough, I'd wait. I've got my 1710 so I leaped, but that was months ago. And I knew I'd take the cash it in buying Merom later and upgrading.

Be aware, that everyone and their brother/sister is gonna be ebaying Yonah cpu's when Merom comes out. That means a very poor return if you understand how that works. So don't plan on covering most of the cost of Merom by reselling the old chip. Either be ready to pay up and take the loss or wait.

If I were in your shoes I'd wait. By first week of Sept, or about 5 weeks, you are likely to see zillions of Merom ads start flying up.

A better option is to wait a couple of years since the speed differential are nearly the same, there arent any 64-bit applications out right now, and with Yonah socket able to take Merom, its worth the wait.
