My turn to post system pictures

My wife calls the 2407 a TV, not a monitor. Keeps asking "what is it that you need it for again honey?"

i told her early next year, im getting a second 2407, laptop will be put away for travelling, and I will build me a nice SFF cube pc instead of getting another laptop. there was no smile from her. lol

On to the pics. (Click to open a bigger picture) Pretty much everything is from IKEA; the table, wall shelf behind the monitor/laptop, shelf on the left, cable management tubes you can cut to length you will see later. The laptop is setting on a Kensington Laptop Desktop USB 2 stand. I didnt hook up the USB hub for it yet though. The 9100 is a little thick, so it doesnt sit all the way at the bottom of the stand. It's about 2 inches up. I might try and remove the plastic padding strip inside at the very bottom and see if it can sit lower.

Notice that most cables are not visible. Keeps a very neat and clean look not having eveyrthing sprawled all over the floor. You dont even see cables going from the desk to the scanner and printer on the shelf above. The only cables visible in this shot is the cable for the tv tuner, and the power supply cable for the paper shredder.

Just another view.

If I can lower the laptop into the stand by the two inches, i think it will look better. I can then also lower the 2407 a little. I like to have the tops of the displays aligned. The MX1000 mouse on the right. Funny thing is I was using a 510 before this, and the optical LED discolored the desk a little in the areas the mouse was used....small blotchy red fades on the dark brown wood. I dont see it getting worse since I switched to laser. On the right in the back, external hdd, and external DVDRW. I also took out the CDRW from the laptop and have a second hdd in there.

I name this picture "Fire Hazard" You can see the cables coming from the 2407, all 4 are wrapped in the cable management tube. The laptop tube has 7 cables in it. Under the desk, you can see the wire cable management rack, also from Ikea; can be screwed on to the bottom of any desk. It comes in very handy. More in next picture.

You can see I zip tied two power strips to the under side of it. I am using about 10 if the 12 available oulets on them. The huge 9100 power brick sits in it nicely, along with 4 other smaller powerbricks for other devices. Nice thing about the rack design, I can hook excess cables onto it, so nothing hangs down. After I push the table back, the power strip cables will be hooked up out of site as well. The ATI TV Wonder USB and a 7 port USB 1.1 hub sits in there as well.

The back of the laptop and stand. You can see the tube zip tied to the right upright. The scanner USB cable, printer USB cable and power cable runs up through there neatly.

Another shot behind the monitors. The cable holder tubes are awesome. I got it in grey, but they have it in black also.

hehe thanks.

i work from home and am using a corner in the living room. so it has to be clean. my wife said so.

we are looking into a 2 bedroom place now so i can make the 2nd room into an office, and she can reclaim her living room. lol

should be a nice relief for you as well as her , anyway great job, even if i tried to fix up my desk space to be cleaner i doubt i could do as good a job as you

That's neat. Cables over here are scattered. I have so keep an eye on my dogs to make sure they won't bite the cables. I think I'll look for that cable holder. There's IKEA here so I better ask my wife to look for it :P

Very nice setup, everytime I have tried to keep my setup at home clean it ends up trashed a week later. I can only keep it looking clean at school where I am the only one using my computer.
I'm using your setup for inspiration for my next home remodel.

Neat & cool setup. The tidying of the cables must have cost quite a bit of your time...

SPEEDwithJJ: it gets easier as I do it. This was the third time as I moved things around. I was excited just getting the 2407 and planning around it, so i took it easier taking about 40 mins (undoing and redoing). If you have a good idea where everything goes, should be down to 20mins even the first time. One thing to remember before zip tieing and tucking away; sort out what is mobile and what is not :P I keep the laptop ac adapter cable and mouse on the outer edges so its easy to take off when travelling. the first time, it was tucked away so nice i had to take off other cabling to get to them.

buzzedlightyear and Lengbooi: ikea is pretty good. they have some good accessories. the cable management rack and cable holder are very good value.

Here is a link for the rack.you can adjust the width of it. amazing value.

I cannot find the link for the cable tube, but if i remember right it was $5 for 8 or 10 feet.

another great place for tables is believe it or not, office depot or staples. they have a nice glass L shaped table if you are into those.

dave621: wow, thanks for the compliments.

Great setup !! Ultra clean. I have the same desk (the "Jerker") but with the light colored wood top.

Unfortunately I have like a junkyard of stuff on top of mine (and no 2407).

Looks great !!

dude, I love your set up. Mine's somewhat similar but not completely. I only require the dual screen cause I have to control another PC from another room all the time.

But yeah, your set up is great and clean too.

what kind of desk is that (model and brand and all that info). where can I buy it? it seems like the perfect desk for college lol
post #14 of 19
It's available @ Ikea. The name is "Jerker" and it comes in a light top or dark. There are also accessory shelves and racks for it. It also comes in several variations ( a "regular" flat longer desktop without the upright shelf part, and maybe some other one).
