OQO Handtop initial review - Page 2

I looked at these in depth in consideration to take to Iraq. The size was awesome and would have been great for portability but in the end that novelty wore off. For what I was looking for at the time it wouldn't have been enough. Seems like sweet gadget and a great tool in the right situation. Nice to read some personal thoughts on the device.

Well Tek, if you indeed want something smaller, I'd trade you both of my laptops AND my Oqo for the one you got from Pctorque...

The pen and the driver CDs are on the way finally and I got my usb cd-drive yesterday, so the actual in-depth reviewing should be able to start soon. I wouldn't have started this thread had I known that lady was going to take so long sending my stuff.

yeah, it's frustrating that companies try to save a little bit of money on ram at the sacrifice of speed and, at times, usability.

i'm interested to see how the third and fourth editions of the oqo turn out and the upgrades that occur. assuming they make it that far. anybody know how well the company is doing?

Last I heard, Sony was kicking their butts. The OQO is much sleeker and very comfortable. The material itself is kinda like a suede-coated material. It scuffs easy, but it feels very nice. It's smaller, and it actually looks like a gadget, whereas the Sony looks like something for the military. Add in the fact that OQOs are cheaper, and that's why I went with it... although some of the Sony features would be nice.

kesmith....since you're ditching the 0Q0, ditched your AW, and now ditching the Dell....what the hell are you left with?

Lol, I have a Dell XPS coming the mail from U.N. Inspector, I'm picking up another Alienware m7700 (broken) on saturday, and I'm hoping to buy raspsters m5500. Also trying to ditch my powerhouse gamer desktop if anyone cares. I like to keep my electronics moving so they don't have a chance to depreciate too far.

I would have kept the first m7700, but it was barely faster than my Dell and was all scratched up. U.N. Inspector has it now.

Alright, after going to Hawaii and taking the OQO with (so I had a chance to actually use it in real-world situations) I can honestly say that this thing kicks butt. I loved it. It fits in my Nintendo DS case, so I just took it with me a couple days. Go by a bar that has a sign for free wifi, stop for 5 minutes, check the Seahawks schedule, get some emails, and move on. Excellent device. When your on a sidewalk using it, you don't notice the speed at all. It's just fine. When you're sitting next to your $2500 powerhouse desktop, yeah you notice that it's a little sluggish. After real use though, I have NO complaints. Even in Hawaii, I didn't notice the heat on my hands. Comfortable to hold, easy to use thumbstick. The stylus-screen recognition isn't all that great, but it's good enough.

Wow sounds great.

I used to own a Psion Series 5 and after that an I-Mate PDA 2k (not serious PCs but seriously portable and the Psion had a great keyboard).

Now I have a Libretto.

Whats the keyboard like on the OQO?

I don't really know how to describe it. It's much easier to type on than any PDA or smartphone keyboard I've ever used. That's pretty much been limited to Nokia 6800, 6820 and an Ipaq 6315.
