Ah, a solid date makes me feel much better. Will earliest orders come first? I ordered July 12, hopefully that puts me towards the top.

Yes, most pre-orders will be ship on Monday or Tuesday.

cyberpowerinc.com has the S96j's in stock also. They seem to get a lot of bad press on these forums but, I've only had good experiences.

In fact, I just ordered their Explorer X5 6800 model. I ordered on July 17th and, as mentioned, there was a back order. Original ship date was supposed to be July 31st. Since I'm going back to school I really needed it this week. Well, I called them (real easy to get through to phone support) and told them of my plight. The part (was the DVD) came in Wednesday and they 1-day aired it yesterday. I expect to have it show up at my house today. The upgraded shipping was all on them due to the back-order and erroneous ship date. I say that is pretty good customer service.
Will give a review as soon as I get it and test for a bit.

Update on S96J status:

All Pre-orders will be ship on Monday and Tuesday.

Well, I ordered mine yesterday (or today I guess since it was past midnight), and I guess it will ship on Wednesday (so I was told third hand)!

Ken, last question.

Will the S96J's that are in this shipment be leaving w/ the new BIOS or is that something we have to do ourselves?

If the BIOS is not a latest one, you can download it from Asus website through the flash utility to update it.

We will update BIOS to 0901 for all S96Js.
